Do you collect dirks or knuckles?

I've always been attracted to them and want to get knuckles. Not to EDC. It's illegal to carry them concealed. Even with a CCW. It's for novelty and collection. Not to EDC for self defense lol.

Personally I don't understand the strict laws of them. A knife to me would cause worse injury. I guess it's because a knife could be considered a tool vs knuckles will always be categorized as a weapon. Been thinking of getting a pair at the flea market. Not sure what is quality and what isn't.

Truth be told, its not really a knuckle forum, which you post in (though there may be some knuckleheads here - a knucklehead being somebody really into knuckles).

Its more of a General Knife Discussion hence the name.

The quality of knuckles and other questions in that vein belongs in PracTac.

I have a Cold Steel Naval Dirk, for no better reason than I was reading the entirety of Patrick O'Brian's Master and Commander series. "It seemed like a good idea at the time" is probably what's going to end up on my tombstone. It's the only dirk I own due to the many laws and ordinances aimed directly at them, because they are solely weapons and pretty damn good at it. Same with knuckledusters; they exist solely to pound people, usually from surprise, and they were historically the choice of thugs and criminals. You might want to check your local laws before you buy any, because simply owning them is a crime in some places. The "paperweight" defense is pretty worthless.

I see brass knucks and all kinds of ninja stuff at our local Trade Day on Sundays here. I asked a guy one time how much for those brass knucks and he told me $25. I asked him if they really worked. He told me to hit my friend with them on. If I didn't knock him out, then I could have them for free...:D

When I was younger, I was interested, curious is a better characterization. I have a pair of brass knuckles and a black jack lying around here somewhere. I generally don't buy daggers, or other "tools" intended specifically for fighting with the exception of a sword and firearms. Again.... I own them, but have little interest in them anymore.

Flea market, quality and knuckles.......great way to start a thread.
Ugh

Same. Plastic or SS CNC Made paperweight for $500-1000? Nutty.

Well, the carbon fiber knuckleduster in this picture is $80, made by one of the knife-makers on this very forum.

As for "nuttiness," well, hate to break it to ya, but most everyone on the planet thinks you're a complete loon for posting on a knife forum. :D

But as for the OP, anything you get at a flea market is likely to be absolute junk.
Had a buddy who got a pair of (illegal) cast metal knuckles. He tried hitting a tree with them, and they broke in half.
Just as well though...it kept him from hitting a person with them in an explosive fit of fear (he lived in constant fear).

Wow, that is just a horrible way to live a life, both living in fear and living in ignorance....cast iron knucks? Why not just make them out of glass. Some kinds of glass would be able to take the impact better.

i collect some. i like the history of them more than any use of them. illegal as all get out to carry or use in most states and countries i imagine...... so dont

i wouldnt pay 800 bucks for one or a set.

i highly dislike the fake belt buckle setup ones also the zinc ones. only really like brass sheet cut ones and solid brass casted ones. wrong forum though on these......

I just want one for the novelty. In general I don't really like the idea. As a conversation piece it's not something I want to show friends or people. First thing they will judge and say is "oh you're the trouble maker instigator. I just like all weapons lol. And I have got some really nice knives at the flea market many a times. Name brand. Not talking about counterfeit clones or the bulk foreign cheap stuff. That is mainly how I get all my knives and yard sales.

They were some form of cast "brass" looking metal.
Something cheap, cheap, cheap...typical flea market junk. You can find some decent things hiding at such places, but most is pure, unadulterated garbage.

He never got over the fear thing; it was sad to see. :(

I have one old pair of cast iron ones that have probably seen it's use of social work in it's day. These days I make mine out of HDPE, Copper, Aluminum and an old snowboard.

The hard part is though, finding the right customer niche. A lot of people don't want to pay custom prices for what they can get at gas stations and the like unfortunately.

This G-10 knuckleduster is 3/8" thick, and cost $20. :)

Looks good with chemicals, and works pretty well on the heavy bag at the gym.

Guess it wouldn't be great for hiding in shadows waiting for victims, but since I'm not a ninja, that is okay. ;)
Apparently everyone else thought they were ninjas, because the black and camo ones were going for $35.
