I am wondering if I am the only person that does this. I spend hours looking at and researching knives and then when I finally get one, I look at it and play with it for a while, and then I'm off on my quest for the next one...
Does'nt mean I don't like it, or that I'm not going to use it. I used to do the same thing with guns ( pre-64 winchesters and early colts ). Wife says I have issues.. Big surprise

I have the same issues my friend. Never can have too many knives or guns. Wife thought I had issues sixteen years ago when she married me.....she has since confirmed her suspicions.

I think that most people on this forum have this behavior. If they did not, they would not be spending time here. Probably what varies most is the time between purchases.

Tell your wife it could be worse. You could be into fast cars or some other hobby where each acquisition is way more expensive. (On second thought, somehow I find that making what to me is a logical argument seldom works with my wife. )

Ah yes, another case where the wife was correct.. Don't let her know this though, or she may try to help you with these issues.. lol

You just described my condition exactly except for the Winchesters. I was into buying Peacemakers and USPSA guns. A knife addiction is cheaper but not by much.

We went through that very thing about 10 years ago. Before my son was born. I used to build race cars and we also had a winged sprint car.
MAN , talk about expensive .... Makes the gun and knife hobbie look REAL cheap.... I too gave up trying to make things look logical .

Hmmm.....sounds awful familiar:) For the most part, that's exactly what I do with the exception of my "regualars" which very rarely change. I go look for one to replace one of my regular ones, usually. Carry it and use it for a bit, then go find another one. So.....I have roughly 120'ish folders and really only use a few:) Just this last little while, I started to acquire larger folders - Ontario RAT 1, BM710D2, Police for some reason - don't know why, really - I don't use them that often, and when I do, it's usually an Endura 3, my Buck/Strider or my Gerber Gator and/or a fixed blade for the ugly stuff. Just something about those larger ones...... One thing I can say about my new Caly 3, it's definitely growing on me and looks like it's gonna earn a permanent place in my pocket along with my D4 and Mini-Grip. It's only been a few days, though. I think my Caly Jr made it a whole two days:) I'm basically a pack rat, so I'm not one to sell off or give away anything in my collection, but I do fondle/touch all of them occasionally.

I just looked at a Caly 3 also. Nice knife. May be one of the next purchases. There is definetely something to be said for the fondle factor...

I am noticing that several of us refer to giving up on "logic" with their wives. I don't think I have ever met a female human being that logic will work on. They just aren't built that way. I think Paula Poundstone hit it on the head when she said (discussing her upcoming marriage) "I have finally found the man who I want to torment for the rest of his life." I don't think they do it intentionally, but they just don't think anything like we do. I guess that would be a good seperate thread in Whine and Cheese. I love my wife dearly, but there isn't another person on earth that can confuse me as quickly and thoroughly as she can. (Or drive me bat shit as quickly and thoroughly either)

And some of them are so good at it that they can confuse the hell out of you, and when you say I don't understand, they tell you that your not paying attention to what they say.....

I'm the same way. I'm thinking it's the satsifaction or thrill of the hunt that drives me(us). Once we capture the prize, most of the thrill is gone and we start looking for the next one to capture. In the process we end up with some fine tools!

It's part of the disease. It will deminish somewhat over time but I'm afraid it will never completely go away.

I think you are right....

And here i was thinking that i had a problem, looks like i have found a new family.I have only been collecting now for 2 months but find my draw now contains 20+ knives.Got my first spyderco last week,an endura 4 serrated, followed 2 days later by native 3,followed 3 days later by gerber guardian, uh oh maybe i do have a problem.......is it normal to feel sick and slightly uneasy knowing that there isnt a knife in the mail??

Welcome to BF.. I don't feel sick or uneasy if there is no knife in the mail..
For me, I think its more of a PANIC.

Especially when it's a day or so late:) I got around it by going to my local retailers and getting mine whenever possible. Instant excitement, price be da$#%ed, BUT I've got it!!!!! But don't go away.......it gets worse again when the retailer(s) doesn't have it and you DO have to order it so you buy one to "get you by". My Caly3 had to be ordered and it was two weeks late, sooooo...... an Adventura, Jess Horn, DDR 3 Folder kit, Lagoulie and a Police later.......... I also agree that the thrill of the hunt is almost as much fun as getting it.
