Do you find it hard to get rid of your knives or tools

I just got some atwoods and they are awesome tools, but now I have a chance to own a holy grail knife (spyderco Lum)

I hate selling or trading and thats why I never do it, because I believe money comes and goes but these tools/knives really make me :D. I don't want to regret it later that I sold it. I guess I just don't want to have regrets later, but I have been wanting this Lum for such a long time.

So my question to you is do you find it easy to sell and trade your tools or knives, & how do you feel afterwards.

Merry Christmas

Why did I have to be such a huge Spyderco fan :)

I don't find it easy to trade knives and tools but I will say that some are easier to trade or sell than others. There are other purchases I am saving for that have also caused me to sell some knives here but I will say that there are a few that are just untouchable. That may change for some of the knives I own down the road but not all. I've noticed that we tend to recycle a lot of tools and knives amongst ourselves here on the forums and many remain unused kind of like when I use to trade cards and stuff as a kid. Perhaps you will be able to pick up some of the other knives and tools again in the future.

Sometimes a knife I trade, I end up wanting again. I've traded two Yojimbos away because I was faced with such good offers, but only a few months after selling the last one I'm ready to get it back.

Other times I trade away and never look back. The Kershaw Mini Cyclone wasn't a bad knife, but I didn't personally care for it. Haven't missed it at all. Same with my Needs Work. I loved the knife but the handle didn't fit me right at all, so it got traded.

I have started to conclude that it's best to avoid trading or selling a knife if possible. Even with knives I never carried sometimes I'll feel like using one again some day. I need another Opinel 8....:D

I can;t do it...I just can;t. I've been collecting tools for more than 3 decades, and knives even longer (although recently the inventory has become "overhead" :D ). I can;t part with them.

I have to frames of thought when purchasing a custom knife: 1) It is NOT to sell or trade. 2) It is purchased with the intent of selling or trading.

I buy to use and use hard but, a few have not lived up to the hype and I've sold or traded them. Ironically, the one knife I couldn't wait to pawn off was the Spydie Lum. I traded it for a PAra-Millie which I also didn't care for. Traded that for a Ritter Grip which I'm not in love with either. I'm learning that trading isn't for me.

Trading buying and selling is all a part of this hobby for me. I like getting new steel in the mail box..............:D

I have a few knives on my safe list, but mostly its all a part of the fun. I have wanted a few knives back, but I get over it fast when the new steel comes in.

Its a sickness. ;)

I have never sold or traded any of my knives or tools. The only time I would consider doing so would be if I had exact duplicates.

I have sold very few knives.. The only ones were knives that just really didn't do anything for me.. Figured I would rather sell them and replace with something I do like.. I sold 2 recently and they have already been replaced with ones that I do like.

NEVER sold tools..

I can't sell or trade my tools or knives because I think one might be useful in the future or at least it will be very hard if I am going to. If I had too many I would give some away. I don't think I could have too many tools.

For some of my more expensive knives (and any other item I have that is top of the line and pricey) I find it hard to part with. My thinking is, well I could afford it when I bought it, it is a top of the line item and worthy of having. I do not know what my financial situation will be tomorrow and if I got rid of them, I may regret it later as I may not be able to replace them financially. As of right now, I wouldn't have a problem with doing some trading for something of the same quality and value.

Some brands if you luck out and get something popular, that winds up discontinued later you have a knife worth many times the purchase price. I have a few Benchmades and Spydercos that I've never used that have done just that. Can't bring myself to part with them as they can only be even more sought after as time passes.

Most of my knives have been around for generations before me, and hopefully generations to come. I have absolutely no qualms about selling or trading to the future collectors/ custodians of these knives. The few useful knives I have will be with me till the end. My collection on the other hand is ever evolving and changes with my whims.

Knives are just part of the family, I could not part with them unless someone in the family needs one. They tend to accumulate around here, and once in awhile make an apearance and do some work.

Other hand tools just keep getting used until lost or used up and replaced.

I have never sold or traded a knife. I like what I have. That is not to say that I would not if something came along that I really really wanted and did not have the $ for it.

I run hot/cold with my stuff. I will hang onto something fiercely until one day, man, I gotta get something new. When I replace something, I want to replace it, so I will sell/trade/give away/throw away/do something stupid with til it breaks.

I have sold knives to be able to afford others, and made a couple of trades. If I had to sell my knives because of an emergency, I would. Then I would start my collection again.

I neither trade nor sell off old tools or knives.

Part of it is as voiced by pkdmslf. I don't know that I will be able to replace them, so I hang onto them. (I spent a lotta years with little money and my parents grew up in the depression, so being careful with things is ingrained in my thinking.)

But also I'm a packrat by nature and I hold onto whatever I have.

I only trade when I feel I got tired of it already of when my buddies here gets exactly the same thing, I want to be the only one with it but the problem is whenever they see it they try to imitate me. Lest I trade it off.

Thats the biggest thing with me as well. I do not think I will be able to replace it later on, and then I will pay an arm and a leg to get it back.

I wish i could be carefree and try new thing, but still keep the old ones.
I think it's time for a second job now to support this habit:D
