Do you get bored of knives? I did but...

So I thought I had escaped the grasp of knife collecting for good. I have never been so wrong.
I had purchased two guns and sold off most of my knife collection leaving behind only an Extrema Ratio and a TOPS fixed blade. I had lost interest in knives for a while and thought that buying knives was ridiculous. Some of my folders had costed more than my Mossberg 500 shotgun and my mind was blown how much this hobby had costed.

Fast forward last week, I took a glimpse at a Benchmade 943 and I was done. I had owned that knife before, but gave it as a gift to my brother and remembered how beautiful that knife was. So now I NEED it again. I also bought a Microtech Socom Elite off a member here.

I guess knife collecting really is an addiction and even when I thought I was done I really wasn't. I have returned full force unfortunately :(

Has anyone else had this experience?

Not bored persay, but more so putting the hobby on the backburner while priorities take place (tattoos, tuition, new motorcycle for the upcoming season) Whittled down my collection to two SJ75's, an SNG PD-1 and CS Tuff Lite. I imagine in the end it'll just be the SJ75 and Cold Steel...I have a wicked edge coming in that'll hopefully ignite my passion for knives again.

Nope, not once... So many knives that I'd love to have, but lack the funds to buy. And the list just keeps growing. :D

I get bored easily with all my hobbies and switch to a new one, knives usually get a a bit of my time. after I got my sebenza 21, I got super bored with knives...I'm slowing getting back into them via traditionals, have very little in the tactical now. so ya, I get bored with knives, but I always ending up going back to them sooner or later

I get bored with knives all the time. But the flame always gets rekindled when I buy a new one haha.

Yes I have, but then I got into flash lights, military boots, atvs, guns, air guns.

But I always go back to knives.

Not bored of knives, but slowing down.

I feel like I've seen it all, and I know what I like, so there are very few knives that actually make me want to pay for them.

That's one of the reasons I got bored I guess

I ease the boredom by modifying my knives to suit my requirements. It makes them more useful and more unique (conversation pieces).

Nope!

Luckily I have a job that requires me to love knives and keep em sharp as hell.

as for buying knives, think im about done, other than more yanagi's.

every winter i remember how awesome fixed blades are for edc. then every spring and summer i remember how much i hate fixed blades in carbon steel....

*i dont hate carbon steel, i <3 1095 but my job is hot and wet in the summer. and after just 3 days i had wrecked a esee 3. took forever to clean it up after that. and i also got tons of rust on my izula. and i dont store the blade wet or anything i honestly dont use a knife even that much at work. but yeah, carbon steel is not for me in the hot months

I bought my last knife exactly 2 years ago today for my birthday. I've since sold that one along with most of my expensive ones to fund my previous automotive hobby. Knives were fun and cheaper at first than car parts until you get hooked and want to try everything.
New ones come out and I sometimes want to buy but I just sit back, watch, and read on here.
As a tool I use everyday I don't really get bored with them and I continue to maintain them. I just don't ever see myself buying any more since the ones I have do everything I need them too.

I had a similar experience.
I sold off my collection, including my grail CRK, and settled on a Delica 4.

Almost a year past without a single knife purchase until I decided to give this forum a revisit. One look at a sebenza and I was hooked again.
I purchased a used CRK and now I'm getting into flashights.

I think this to myself everyday, especially when I am shopping for guns because I was a gun guy before a knife guy and now I am just both. I tend to go in bursts. I have bought so many knives lately because ammo has been so hard to find at a good price (I refuse to over pay for just about anything). SO I kind of went on a knife spree and have enjoyed it, I am starting to get back on a gun kick as it is hunting season and things are slowly settling down at the moment in that industry (Settling down might be a little of an overstatement as it is still a booming business) I am not a buy and sell guy because then I would always be losing money, so I try to keep most the knives I buy (Usually I only buy want I want, unless I am traded something). If I lose interest in buying knives for awhile as my tastes have moved up past the majority of benchmades and into high end production, midtechs, and customs then I will just keep and fondle the knives I currently have. I have fun flipping and flicking my knives all the time, but I also know when to limit myself as I want so many knives and other things, but I need to be smart with my money and save.

It is ok to take a break from certain hobbies as you think you are getting bored, but do not give up on them just take a break. I do this with many shopping sprees and hobbies such as knife making (usually when I can not afford supplies).

after about 3 years with knives as hobbies... I never get bored. but as the others said, yes, slowing down/taking a break is a must for any hobby...

I can't say that I'm bored with knives, but I am getting into other hobbies that leave me with a lot less money.

My obsession with edged tools has never died, it just changes form every few months. Went through a tactical knife period, a traditional knife period, a kukri period, a machete period, and more recently an axe/hawk period. Right now I'm jumping on the Busse train...
