Hey all - Do you guys recommend the Grizzly G1015? I am trying to upgrade from a simple 1x30 setup and the Grizzly looks like one of the few 2x72s under 1k. Thanks again for all the help and suggestions.

I started with that grinder in 2004. It is a work horse, but runs about twice the speed of light. Do yourself a favor and spend a few bucks more for a more versatile unit.
I got a KMG around 2006 or so and never regretted it.

Yep variable speed is amazing.
I went from a 1x30 to a KMG.
Huge difference

I got a kadrmask kreation for like $500 from him new, a ebay 2 hp motor for $100 and a Chinese vfd from eBay for $70. The grinder is awesome, I think kadrmas doesn't get the recognition they should and all told that'll still be cheaper than an grizzly. There are plenty of guides on the forum discussing what motors and vfds to get, how to wire them, etc.

For not much over $1k you can have a Reeder, one of the very top of line grinders. "IF" I were buying a ready built grinder I do think the Reeder would be my first choice. I really like their SGA attachment.

Spend only a little more and get a top quality horizontal/vertical 2X72 unit built in heavy aluminum.

Start with the Reeder basic chassis unit with the flat platen and wheels is $795
Add:
A good 1Hp 3Ph motor and VFD is $560

Later on, you can add a 10" contact wheel and spare tool arm for $275 (from Reeder).

The grinder base is really well designed and is great for folks who need to move the grinder around. I highly recommend this base.

$2K will buy all the above.

Remember you will need about $100 in belts to get started, too.

I don't do much, either, Robert, but after many years I am at least able to play in the shop again a small bit. Hope to make a knife or two again, but no hurry.

Nonetheless, I read you had health-related issues, so glad to see you here. Hope you are hanging in there.
