Do you have a system for rotating your SAKs?

Most of us who frequent this forum seem to own a least a few SAKs... How do you decide which one to carry on a given day?

My "fave" SAKs in terms of ergonomics and all-around coolness (SwissTool and Bundeswehr OHT) are not really in my EDC rotation because they are too large for my everyday white-collar needs... So, my Super Tinker is my default EDC SAK because I like the scissors and large blade as a compliment to whichever Spyderco one-hand folder I'm toting for the day...

If I feel I'll have "city tasks" that don't quite require my SwissTool, I'll take my Mountineer since the metal saw/file might come in handy... If I'm going for a short hike at one of the parks in the foothills of Denver, I'll take my Ranger or Camper so I have a woodsaw available.

Do you have a method to your SAK rotation madness?

My SAK collection is rather small but I always have atleast my vic swisstool or spirit. Lately I've been carrying one of my 2 lockblade SAKs in addition to my multi-tool. It's either my OHT or Helmsman that comes with me.

I have 2 or 3 lock-blade Adventurers scattered around. They are ranked as new, old, and older. I put the old one in my pocket the day before I travel, in case I forget to leave it in the car and it gets taken by the TSA. In my checkin luggage I pack a Spartan so that I will have a knife with a corkscrew when I arrive. Last week I flew New Jersey without a knife so I bought a Sportsman II at Big Lots for $7.00 to tied me over.

When I vacation by car I carry a Locksmith model so that I have a file and a saw for major emergencies.

My entire EDC depends on wardrobe and where I'm heading. The more casual or more off-the-beaten-track, the more it grows. The opposite is also true.

When at work I'll carry a Deluxe Tinker on my belt. For casual townie type things my Timekeeper is usually my choice. When working around the house or out hiking/camping I carry my OHT with the pocket clip. I also have many, many Saks of various vintage scattered through the house and my cars... just in case.

If I'm doing something outside where I know other hand tools will be in reach, I grab my Outrider. Otherwise, it's my Spirit 90% of the time. If I'm dressed up, I slip my smaller Huntsman in a sportcoat pocket, or more recently, a "dressy" traditional slipjoint (Boker copperhead in red bone).

I pretty much carry my Swisschamp as a compliment to my tactical (Trance or Delica SS). I will go with my Tinker on occasion, or when around the house and closer to the rest of my tools I'll throw my Alox Electrician Plus in my pocket. The Champ, for it's size, is surprisingly not too large for me to edc even in a pair of Dockers at the office.

Well it has to do with my plans for the day.Going to a cocktail party, club stag event, etc. I'll take along my 84mm Waiter.Weekend trips to the lumber yard I'll hang on the OHT in belt sheath.Going hunting I'll carry my Hunter or Huntsman in a belt sheath.Same choices for a boating trip(with lanyard for sure).I always have the Bijou in my pocket for hygene duty.Others at my whim.YMMV.tom.

I just carry my good old Ranger. :) No rotation needed. It does everything I need it to do.

I like my Ranger best. Everything I usually need but smaller than the other fat SAKs. I want a file, saw, and scissors, specifically. This is a bit silly because I'll always have my Classic around, which takes care of (nail)file and scissors itself.

Meanwhile, the SAKs continue to pile up, so ... Swisschamp in my Bail Out Bag, Craftsman in my Pack Rat, One-Hand Trekker for a walk in the woods.

well -rotation cometmplates far more menatl energy thatn i give my edc-more based on what im doing and where and mood -garden and yard-sprinklers and the like-swiss tool probably-otherwise who knows-depends if im feeling the mcgyver effect -or feeling like 'im a grown man' what do i need such a huge pocket knife for?

im oftem in the ranger club too-(now my unique stay glo ranger!!!!)
i have 2 red rangers-2 transparent red rangers (pre hook- bought 'new old stock' for 15 each!!!- and
now

one bright yellow stay glow

ive got many others as well but the ranger seems to be the best compromise for me and the best pocket fit -those champs are pretty hefty

im a lawyer and my edc is an executive or classic (ive never liked dinky lil classics and for some reason now ive got at least a dozen of em as well as the minichamps, minichapm II, lite up managers, ad nauseum-

but the classics seem to do quite well for me as an edc -nails, mail, loose thread, open packages, remove a staple etc-chepa to replace with little remorse if i do lose em)

-but no edc if i need to be in court-not allowed

I don't have any particular model I EDC, depends on what I am doing. By the way, here is a heads up for good deals on Victorinox SAK models. Try www.centralvalleywholesale.com . Rich has great prices and more than reasonable shipping rates and ships FAST! I have been buying from Rich for some time and have always been treated great. Just thought you fellers would like to know. I usually buy the ALOX models. I think I'm addicted to them! You just can't beat SAKs for quality, fit, finish and price.

Usually, I carry two that complement each other. If its the Swisschamp, I don't really need another SAK, but since there is room for it in my jeans watch pocket, a Rambler clipped to a micro flashlight makes a useful addition because of the small ph screwdriver and nail file, things lacking on Mr. Big.

For packing light, a Tinker does nicely, with which I swap out the Rambler for a Micra, also carried with those of my plier based multi-tools that don't have scissors. Sometimes, though, I'll stay with the Rambler anyway for the toothpick. :)

Once in a very long while, to really minimize, I take the Rambler only. I have a few other SAK models, but never use them anymore.

I used to carry a Super Tinker until I discovered the Compact. It's really pocket friendly. I also carry a Spyderco Delica.
