Hi all,

OK, I gotta come clean. I MUST be suffering from O.C.B.D. (Obsessive Compulsive BLADE Disorder). I have plenty of perfectly good Knives (Folders & Fix Blades), Machetes, Meat Cleavers, Axes, Hatchets (and soon a Custom Tomahawk). Yet, yet, when I do an ADVANCED search here (of HARDBALL) at Blade Forums I find the "threads" I've started.....almost every single thread is basically about....."I WANT".

I want a Custom "Jeff Miller" Tomahawk

I want a Custom Nessmuk Fixed Blade Knife

I want a KA-BAR Johnson Adventure Woods Stalker 4" Fixed Blade (production Nessmuk).

I want a Opinel Number 8 or Number 9 Folder

I want a new Swiss Army Knife

I want a Number One Canadian Belt Knife

I want a Custom Scandi Knife

I want a Hudson Bay Axe

I want a new Machete

I want a new Gentlemans Folder

I want a really "thin" Folder

I want a vintage Trade Butchers Knife

I want a Custom Ken Hamilton period (circa 18th. Century) Trade Knife

Almost forgot, I want nice small bladed 3"-4" fixed blade knives. Arrrrrr!

Dear God, does it ever end ? I have limited money and can't afford all my "I WANTS".
Tell me I'm not alone!

My name is HARDBALL and I have O.C.B.D.

You can fix that if you buy more knives ;)

Hehe. Nothing but enablers. :D

To the OP. Just try and go camping with a stable full of great knives. I'm constantly trying to figure out what knife to take because they all work great and frankly they're just all cool. :D

Hi guys,

Yea, I'm afraid that I'm just too materialistic. Retz.....yes indeed, rest assured that I will buy more knives lol.
Hey Fred.....Emerson related eh ? Oooh, sounds expensive! Since money is in short supply these days, I've been "scratching" the Blade buying itch by purchasing mostly older "Flea Market/Garage Sale" knives, Axes/Hatchets, Meat Cleavers, etc. I have found some really cool old Knives! I suspect a couple of these Knives are well over one hundred years old, one example being a 12" Blade five pin Wood handle Butcher type (perhaps Trade) knife. I have also purchased over thirty Axes/Hatchets since Spring, several Meat Cleavers, old Carving Bone handle knives and Old Carbon forged Butcher knives (and a Custom made Tomahawk in the works). It's weird, if I don't find/buy "something" at the "Flea Market/Garage Sale" I feel kind of.....empty. I don't think this feeling is a good thing. Shot.....I truly need to start using these items per your suggestion. I do indeed have a lot to choose from.

In your case, from reading your message, I would say no :D.

On a positive note, you say you "want" these items, so there may be hope.
If you said you NEEDED every one of them, you'd probably be in much bigger trouble .

Tell me I'm not alone!

You are definitely not alone.

This theme comes up now and then and my first thought is always "this is like going in a bar and asking for advise on how to quit drinking".

I always knew I had a tendency to want/need too many things but I didn't realize it was a compulsive need until years ago when I bought a house and got married. I was on a tight budget trying to pay off expenses. I discovered I had a physical/addictive need to buy SOMETHING fun. Didn't matter what, if it was cheap or expensive, just something. I even took up calligraphy partly because there were many inexpensive items I could buy to fill that need.

Now I have some extra cash and a fondness for knives. I really have to work hard at keeping it under some level of control. I have NOT been very successful. I've got way more knives than any rational person could want or need.

Hi Al,

Thanks for your thoughts and opinion. Perhaps there is hope for me still. Yes indeed, "want" vs. "need".
I like your idea about finding "something" (in your case Calligraphy) for IN-expensive items. I understand completely what you are saying about NEEDING to buy something. I often find myself buying "something" little/cheap at a Thrift Shop.
Then again, I have an EXCELLENT talent/skill for finding EXPENSIVE items on the cheap. For instance, just yesterday I found a PRISTINE condition "as new" U.S. Military Extream Cold Weather Mummy Sleeping Bag for three dollars! Sweeet!
I LIVE to find deals (such as the Mummy Bag) and I find them quite often. Regarding you having more Knives than any "rational" person could want or need.....what mean this word "rational" ? lol Thanks again Al.

HARDBALL

You do need a machete. I just bought a 12" Tramontina Bush Machete and nylon sheath. A great blade for clearing shooting lanes and short trails! You really have to have one or the 14" bolo. Just make sure you also get a sheath. The 12" can easily fit in most packs, as it's just 17" overall.

Hello everyone.

My name is Chris, and i'm an addict.

:D

Maybe you should get away from knives for a while, and focus on another hobby ?
Animals can be a great hobby for example
*Looks at ball python vivariums in the living room, bedroom and on the kitchen counter*
*Has appointment to pick up another snake this afternoon*

Um yeah, maybe you should stay with knives :p

I want a carpet python
I want ...

DAMMIT :D

Hi Guys,

Joe, I guess I missed listiing the part about my buying MacheteS. I've done some trading for a new Machete recently and just last week, I found a NICE condition old (seeming kind of rare ?) Legitimus Collins & Company made in USA NO. 323
Bolo (Bolo type ?) Machete with 18" blade including Canvas Sheath. I was hoping that the handles were made of Horn but, no such luck. It's difficult to figure out just how old the Machete is but, I read something about this type of Machet be used around the whole "Cuba" thing so, perhaps this Machete dates after WW2 ? I dunno but regardless, it's a pretty darn cool old Machete. I now have about four or five Machetes. C_Becker, funny, I was just having a conversation yesterday about Snakes/Reptiles etc. They are not really my thing. I can appreciate them and hobbiest but, just not for me. I do however have a new Kitty (a pure breed Cornish Rex) that is keeping me on my Toes. Little "Di-Di" jumped onto one of my vintage Audio Speakers (my one time other hobby) and caught/stuck her rare Paw into the Rubber "surround" of one of the "Mid-range" drivers and poked a small hole in it! I give up. I've had this Classic pair of THIEL 03A Seakers since the 1980's and moved them across the entire U.S. (Californa to Maine). It's time to "Cat Proof" the Audio Room again, that is to say "OFF LIMITS to Cats"! I won't even get into detail about my other hobby.....collecting Irish Whiskey (and some Scotch Whisky) other than to say, thank God I have that hobby under control!

HB,
Congrats on your first step--admitting you have a problem! Good luck with that! Have you been to a KA (knifeaholics anonymous) meeting lately? Those guys are BRUTAL!!

Your second step to recovery --give your pal Mono your favorite knife.

I hope I don't see you on the new episode of My Strange Addiction or Hoarders! :D

Stay away from the snake thing, just heard on the news how a python strangled two young boys after it got out and went Up a air vent to an apt above. They guy below had snakes in a make shift shop.

I hate to say it, we all are becoming great material for the hoarders show, imagine the episode with us trying to show our knife collections.

Hi guys,

Yea, well, at least I (unlike many) admit to being a wee bit "over the top" when it comes to collecting "things". I wonder, did Caveman have this problem ? I suspect....yes! I can see it now.....Mrs. Caveman (complaining)...."GORG! Why are you collecting all these Stones ? We have enough Stones! We don't need another D**N stone in the Cave!
Says Gorg : "but Hoooney, look, it's different, it's so smooooth". Regarding Snakes....terrible story regarding the young Boys. Very sad indeed. No Snakes for HARDBALL.....wait a minute....Rocks & Stones! Free and/or low cost.....perhaps I should.....errrrr.....never mind.

HARDBALL

I don't think they will show any knife addicts on hoarders. Just think of all the knives, daggers, machetes, axes, etc that would be everywhere. Even if they were properly sheathed and stored away people be scared, and definitely refuse to try to get rid of your stuff in fear of making you angry, they wouldn't like you when you are angry

Your doing it wrong, you don't collect Rocks & Stones. It's Sticks & Stones! Just avoid letting it get near your bones (particularly the bone handle knives).

My family tells me that I have "EBAS", or Excessive Blade Acquisition Syndrome"

Personally, I don't see it that way. I have a short list of stuff to pick up, it's not a life long thing, right?

This is the site for people who have a problem with blades, its an addiction that requires more not less to keep it under control. 'I want' is normal symptom of this condition.

I want an awful lot..problem is---I have the taste for Busse, but I have a CRKT budget! :D
