Do you insure your collection?

Can knives even be insured and if so do you have your collection insured? I've spent a decent amount in a short time and was wondering what others do to protect their investments.

I currently keep mine in the safe.

It's covered under my homeowners insurance. AND I keep it locked up and out of sight.

A safe is good, but even a heavy safe of 350-400 lbs is brought into the home and installed by ONE man. It can be hauled out the same way, UNLESS you bolt it down to a concrete floor AND to the wall behind it.
If you live there with your wife, get her good instruction on safe and serious gun-handling and keep a Glock, or a baseball bat, where you and she can find it in a hurry. Secure guns away from young children. Lock your doors; be careful who you open your door for.
It's much better to prevent the crime, than to ask the cops to solve the crime.

Good point. I need to list them on my home policy. I do not keep mine in a safe, just in a display case. But I have 2 vicious cats on guard.

I sell home insurance and your knives are covered under a standard home or renters insurance policy. You would just have to pay you deductible if something happens to them.

That's what my agent said too. But there's a limit to the coverage, maybe 50% or 100% or the home's value (I can't remember, and it probably varies by insurance company). Some serious collectors may need additional insurance to cover an extensive collection.

All my knives, boxes, and other knife accessories are hidden, so that thieves don't know I own them. Plus I have a Pelican case that's locked and bolted to the wall.
And to be honest, they'll steal my TV before they think about stealing my knives.

Also, there may be a difference in replacement value and depreciated value --and the need for a replacement value appraisal, receipt, etc., depending on the terms of the policy and the type of collection you own and total valuation under the various replacement conditions.
