Earlier this year I bought a plain large 21 and I liked it. Soon after I picked up a nearly new Wilson Combat Umnumzaan and found the opening to be a bit of a pita, but eventually I got the hang of it and it was ok. Very soon after that I saw an older Unmumzaan with the old pivot and a faded, worn in anodization job that really appealed to me and I managed to pick it up pretty cheap in a trade plus cash swap. While I was waiting for that to be delivered I won another old pivot Unmumzaan in a raffle.
So in the course of about 2 months I went from having zero CRKs to having 4. I found that the older pivot Umnumzaans were much easier for me to open. I sold off the Wilson and I've been carrying the anodized Umnum a lot. I've got the other old pivot back in it's box, just in case I somehow lose the first one.
I sometimes think 'I should sell that other one' and I pull it out of it's box and open it a few times and put it back in the box and decide to keep it, just in case...
I don't know how hard those older pivot Umnums are to get these days, but I really like them so I guess I'll keep the back up.
It's kind of silly in a way because with the customer service from CRK and the quality of these knives, it's unlikely I'll ever need to replace it due to breaking it, but it's possible I lose it (and man, would I be heartbroken. I love the worn in look of this knife)
So, who else keeps a backup of their favorite CRK? And how many backups?
