Do you keep a back up of your favorite knife?

Earlier this year I bought a plain large 21 and I liked it. Soon after I picked up a nearly new Wilson Combat Umnumzaan and found the opening to be a bit of a pita, but eventually I got the hang of it and it was ok. Very soon after that I saw an older Unmumzaan with the old pivot and a faded, worn in anodization job that really appealed to me and I managed to pick it up pretty cheap in a trade plus cash swap. While I was waiting for that to be delivered I won another old pivot Unmumzaan in a raffle.

So in the course of about 2 months I went from having zero CRKs to having 4. I found that the older pivot Umnumzaans were much easier for me to open. I sold off the Wilson and I've been carrying the anodized Umnum a lot. I've got the other old pivot back in it's box, just in case I somehow lose the first one.

I sometimes think 'I should sell that other one' and I pull it out of it's box and open it a few times and put it back in the box and decide to keep it, just in case...

I don't know how hard those older pivot Umnums are to get these days, but I really like them so I guess I'll keep the back up.

It's kind of silly in a way because with the customer service from CRK and the quality of these knives, it's unlikely I'll ever need to replace it due to breaking it, but it's possible I lose it (and man, would I be heartbroken. I love the worn in look of this knife)

So, who else keeps a backup of their favorite CRK? And how many backups?

Yes, I keep backups of a few knives. On the crk side of my collection, I have a spare small regular and am looking for a small carbon fiber 21.

Old pivot, new pivot I would think that it was worn in more (polished washers?) I could be wrong I have never owned Unum or 25. My one classic and regulars do open smoother/easier than my newer 21s. (detent)
This is subjective but several years of carry and use your crk will break in nicely. There are things to be done to the knife to accelerate the process but why rush it?
I myself prefer stiff out of the box... Who has sought out and bought an already broken in baseball glove as a kid?
I'm not of the camp of selling, I'd rather cancel my cable and sell my tv than depart with guns or knives If I fell on that hard of times
I do have several "back ups" but I rotate 3 small sebs and I am currently carrying a ti lock.
Take care and enjoy

Knives get discontinued or altered (Umnumzaan pivot!) all the time. If I find something that I really like, I always pick up a spare. Quality stuff sells for almost what it costs, and quickly, so there's little risk of losing much money. Also, it's nice to have a new in the box backup to a worn in user.

I have a spare or two sitting around.

I'm more interested in what raffles are giving away Chris Reeve Knives. :D

Last year our local CRK retailer (they don't get too many) happened to have two large 21 w/ rain drop damascus in stock...went & picked up one...after a day with that one, the next day just had to go back to get the second one...
The second one was just taken out of the box once & put back....they were even made on the same day...only difference is the slight variation in the raindrop pattern...
When it comes to carrying / using...I often just end up taking one of the three "pre-owned" Sebenzas that i have picked up over the last couple of years....

Heres a pic from from last year...of one of them...

What's a backup ? No, I have several to choose from. I have all the CRK's I need.......for now.

I use/carry mine. What's a safe queen ?

I only have one CRK but I have duplicates of several favorite models of other brands.
