Hi

Do you know of a day pack that has good quality with:

2 water bottle pockets that zip up (if you know what I mean). I carry the long nalgene bottles with 48 oz.

I have the pygmy falcon 2. Great pack. I get laughed when people see the 2 large water bottles. I dont want to look like I am pretending to be the great explorer.

I hate bladders.

Thanx

dont see why you should care that people laugh at you. i'm sure you'll come across someone who needs your help at some point and that water will come in handy.

you could opt for a falcon-II and put the maxped. nalgene pouches on the sides.

but ya, still dont see why it should be a big problem.

edit:

the other option would be considering a vaude pack or deuter with zip up side pockets that are large enough to house the water bottles.

jca21: thanks man. You are correct. Thanks for the advice and tips :)

PorcupineMtns66: That looks like it :) Looking at that one.

its cool dude,

i've been in your shoes before. except now its been replaced by gawking stares of fear since i carry a fixed blade on my belt on the trail. GASP! :D

I've never had anyone laugh at me or my kit. I've gotten some looks, but no one has ever had the backbone to actually laugh at me.

Maybe it's just me.

I say, carry what works for you and ignore the sheeple.

I once had someone ask if they could have some water. They were only on a short hike but didn't realize they would get so thirsty. It was about 90F that day last summer.
I wouldn't worry about what anyone else thinks.
Hope for the best/ prepare for the worst.

Maxpedition makes a nice water bottle carrier that could be attached to molle straps if you have any.

When people laugh at my kit I give them my special type of gum. The fuggum.

TF

Dually noted lol. If somebody laughed at the sight of my pack, they'll be crying at the sight of my knife. Sad thing is, people don't change and it doesn't matter how old the people are. You can get a moronic comment from 50 yo just the same as you could from a 5 yo.

Well, I hate to point out the obvious, but nalgene bottles are water tight. So, if you want to conceal them, you place them inside of your pack. The solution therefore is to get a bigger pack that holds your stuff plus your two water bottles.

:D

I'm pretty sure that they don't make it anymore but I have a Marmot Talus that has two pockets that would probably fit a nalgene (not sure about the big ones). Of course it also has mesh bottle pouches on either side as well. Have to find one used or NOS, but it's a great pack and if you find somewhere that has one let me know because I'd love to pick up a replacement.

I would hope that people would laugh at me. It would be the perfect opportunity to stop, pull down my pants, flap my arms like a chicken and chase them down the trail.
