In the recent copy of Tac..Knives there is a small picture of a knife, (WOW!! HEY you don't say) its a fixed blade, sort of like the Rambo knife, it is designed by an ex-Green Beret and some other guy, can anyone give me any info on this knife, its creators or anything that might wet my appetite!! Thanks.

Could you be more specific? Doesn't the magazine mention the name of the knife? On what page does the picture appear?

Oh come on... play fair... give us another hint...

Almost every "Rambo" -like knife has been proportedly designed by or for an ex-Green Beret type.

I just look through the May 2001 issue and there are probably 50 survival/tactical fixed blades in there.

How big is it?
Does it have a hollow handle?
What blade shape does it have?
Does it have a sawback?

Sorry guys, I don't have the mag here, but I will describe from memory.

Its on the left hand page, at the bottom, the knife is beside the sheath and there is a small paragraph of writing underneath, no serration, large bowie type, I am clutching at straws now amn't I. Thats all I can tell you. Sorry, thanks though.

No, not2.. its definately not the Aitor, its not really an advertisement, more of an article, at the bottom of the page, no saw teeth, the picture is black and grey, nothing in the background, thats all I can say.

This is exciting, isn't it.

How about the one in the "Collectors Corner" column of each issue. May 2000 has a pic of a Vietnam era SOG combat bowie. Has a small caption about a soldier who carried one and was also a medal of honor recipient.

A similar design is made by a few companies today, SOG Specialty knives being one of them.

If that aint it, then I have no idea which one you are talking about.

Independence Custom Cutlery is a a knife making team made up of an ex Green Beret and some other guy. They make a Bowie similar to the Gerber BMF. They had an article exactly as you described in the April edition of Knives Illustrated.

One or both the May and July 2001 issues of Tactical Knives have black and white ads in the left hand column for Strider knives. A sheath is barely visible. Strider is a former Green Beret and a former Marine is his partner, or vice versa.

On Page 36 of the May issue is a picture of a "Kakadu" bushcraft knife in a story by the Austrailian Keith Spencer. It is very much a Bowie-type knife, but made by Spencer.

On page 30 of July issue, is a picture and story about the TOPS Dawn Warrior. I'd hardly call the picture small, but it is on the left side and the sheath is viewed behind the knife. I don't know the background of Mike Fuller, the top guy at TOPS.

I'll check some Blade issues and maybe 1 or 2 more TK issues this evening. Given my own lack of memory, seems only right to help someone else so afflicted. You're a weak link, Pointy, but I'll try to help!

I'm not sure where I saw it, but Al Mar knives has some very "Rambo-like" blades that I think were designed by Green Berets. Sorry for the vagueness.
