do you know your knife history?

no I dont know my history, but to take a shot in the dark, Im going to guess that it was a popular design among french colonists in the americas.

Because, since it's my favorite folder configuration, any time I see one on display it's a trap to make me spend money I could be spending on Busses.

OK I'll take a try. Trappers work in isolated areas for extended periods and need to travel light. They have pelts to haul back and prefer to keep their tool load light. The purpose of multiple blades is when one gets dull others can be used without sharpening. Also if one blade breaks, the trapper won't be SOL.

Probably the blade style choices. The clip/spey combo would be pretty good for trapping and skinning.
