How do you guys like this steel? Not as popular as it was before but I'd still like to get an AFCK in M2 before they're all gone.

Just how bad is this steel with rust?

I think my ATS 34 AFCK is just great but now I'm looking for a little change in the same knife. I think the M2 may just be up my alley.

I have a BM Nimravus and a BM ascent in M2, They take and hold a wicked edge. I have not had any rust problems.

I've had to stop carrying my M2 Mini-AFCK . . . I got sick of everyone making fun of my bandaged fingers. All of my friends are afraid to handle it . . . it's scary sharp. A lot of people say that it's hard to sharpen, which makes sense, but I haven't had any problems. A few minutes on a 204 will make it nasty.:D

I've got a 710 in M2. That recurved edge combined with the fact that it seems to be a rather "toothy" steel makes it an excellent cutter. I'd buy an AFCK with the same if I could find one.

Great stuff. I'm liking M2 more and more. The only problem I've had with rust was after getting the blade on my 710HS blasted and then coated with BC1 and chromium by Bodycote. I'm thinking they forgot the chromium, and left me with a porous finish over a bead blasted blade:( Bad combination, especially on a carbon steel blade. It required daily maintenance this summer after being sweat on all day at work. No problems before that, even though the BT2 was worn off. Takes an awesome edge, and holds it pretty well. Stuff that chipped ATS-34 and 420V hasn't phased it.
I'm not in much need of a new knife, but am thinking about a 145HS/Nimravus Cub before they stop making them in M2 (that's the rumor, anyway).

I've been carrying my AFCK with the M2 for about a month now. Holds a good edge, and it seems plenty tough, But I don't think it takes a very "toothy" edge like VG-10. Different folks, different perceptions I reckon.

a few nites ago was thinking that my bud nealy pesh kebz in M2 had to be the hardest knife to sharpen i have, and havent changed my mind. of course it also holds an edge pretty well, so i can live w/it

I love my Stryker in M2. No rust, just a few scratches in the teflon. The dude is sharp!

I have a Benchmade 710 and 705 in M2. They both hold an exceptional edge. I had some rust spotting on the 710 after having it around the salt when I was fishing for silvers last year. This happened in a matter of hours. It was easily stropped off. At work I often cut up an apple while sitting at my desk. On a couple of occasions I didn't wipe off the 705 (forum knife) properly. Again it spot rusted a tiny bit. That too stropped off w/ease.

If I was around salt constantly (which I'n not) I'd stay away from M2. As far as being hard to sharpen, I have no problem using my Edgepro with occasional touch-ups w/stropping, and a ceramic rod.

I just ordered a 710 in M2 and can't wait till it comes in. I am glad to hear that the general opinion is very favorable for this steel.

I love my M2 AFCK. No problems with rust as long as you realize it's not stainless. I wouldn't do things such as cutting limes or other acidic produce without rinsing. ;) I would have to agree with EF00 as to the "toothy" edge produced from BM M2 as comared to Spyderco VG-10 IMOHO.

The knifemaker who made 2 customs for me loves using M2 & I haven't had any problem with rust. I rub them down with a light oil after use & don't store them in their sheath for extended periods of time. Go for it!:D

Those are just the replies I wanted to hear!

Looks like an M2 mini AFCK will be mine soon. I'd go for the large but after thinking about it I think I'll go with the mini. I already carry the Gunting strongside on my belt so I think another 'big' knife will be too much so the mini will do me just fine.

On a sidenote...will BM send me bronze washers for my current AFCK if I wanted them? My nylon ones are getting all gummed up. Not very smooth anymore.

The mini AFCK M2 is a great knife. I carry it often and sometimes use it hard. I also have the Nimravus Cub and large AFCK in M2, but the mini sees the most use. I takes a very keen edge relativly easy and holds it somewhat better than BM's ATS34. It does not hold an edge quite like CPM440V but it is very tough. Instead of chipping the edge warps a little but is easy to steel and strop back to shaving sharpness. No rust problems.

Regards Jan

I recently received a BM 730CFHS, and yes, the edge is Scary Sharp:eek:! It has attempted to replace my EDC for the last three years, and has almost succeeded. I just carry them both now!:D
