Do you lock your kitchen knives??

Or all the other knives for that matter?

It is a well known fact that most intruders and burglars don't risk carrying weapons of any kind while on the street "on their way to another happy customer", instead using whatever they can find in the place they broke into.

we all have "a few" knives around the house.

I have 6 Japanese kitchen knives That were Brought from Japan after a long stay there - amazing fighting tools if you ask me. San Mai steel, nice blade shapes, wouldn't mind using some of them for real world fighting.

BUT - they remain in the kitchen at all times, and I am too lazy to secure them - or lock them in a drawer.

any ideas???

Speaking for myself, there's nothing in my kitchen to equal the weapons I have on me, or bedside if I'm in bed.

Locking up your kitchen knives ... I dunno. You'd have to wash and towel-dry everything and lock it in the drawer as soon as you're through using it ... unlock the drawer every time you cook ... I'm as paranoid a lunatic as most, but ...

My solution is a 75 pound Boxer bitch who has been rewarded since puppyhood for barking at anyone who comes near the yard. As she sleeps in the house, anyone stepping into the yard at any time causes her to really raise a ruckus.SO..she barks and the dog that barks here and bites where you point him takes over. Hell Gadi, if I was living in Israel I'd have an UZI under my pillow. You can, can't you?

Cougar - that's exactly my point and thinking. I hate going through all this just to pill an orange...I mean - I'd rather use what ever knife I have on my person..

Jake - Israel is NOT what you think it is and my chances of being hit by someone are FAR lower then any Americanos living in a big city.

That said - I will describe my bad side post:

one Para P-14 and 4 extra magazines (with a variety of the best ammo imaginable)

One CS Master tanto (San mai)

One Mag-Lite (5 DD cells)

One Cell phone

on my wish list: not an Uzi (not that I'd mind) but rather a Remington Pump and H&K MP5 in .45

would you feel safe to try and enter my bedroom at night?

BTW - all the windows of my home have bars in them, the door is made of steel and is fireproof and the exit to the garden is protected by an alarm and steel bars.

now, RU happy?

BTW Jake: under the pillow is a big NO-NO.

Bad side drawer - preferably the locked kind (a fast opening safe etc.) but the best solution IMHO - the "bad side holster" - rhymes with west side story

this way you don't have to reach up under the pillow but rather lower your hand slowly to your side - and will be able to shoot through the blanket if someone made it to your bad and is aiming something at you...

hope you never have to do that - shooting in confined spaces make your ears ring for a week

Blilious, I think you misunderstood Jake. He didn't mean that he doesn't need an Uzi here but would in Israel because it's so bad in Israel; he meant that he (like me) thinks Uzis are pretty cool but isn't allowed to own one because he lives in Illinois (like me) one of the more socialist states in the U.S.

It was my impression that fully-automatic rifles were fairly common in civilian hands in Israel? It would never be tolerated by the sheeple here. If a gun is evil and kills by itself, then a full-auto is REALLY evil and kills a LOT.

Dorks.

This is not the right place for this discussion - but since you asked: NO, Automatic weapons are not regularly owned by private citizens in Israel - the opposite.

what you do see - and have - are military issued Auto guns of all kinds. since joining the Israeli army is mandatory - every family with a 18 year old boy or girl has a long gun in the house from time to time.

Israeli soldiers are also forced to take their long guns with them when going home for weekends, vacation etc.

so you see many long guns in the streets - but it is allot easier to get a gun in the USA (at least in most of the states) then it is in Israel.

and it is getting harder - in Israel too.

this is why I *love* going to my reserve duties - at least you get to handle the guns

Pooh,

Stupidity rules in Israel as well - and guns ARE considered evil and capable of jumping up and spraying innocent people all by themselves ("it happened before - I SAW it in the movies!!!)

I shoulda known.

Still, in some ways it still beats here. There would be no thought here of any soldier or reservist taking a weapon off base--probably not even back to the barracks, actually. And if you're walking down the street with the rifle slung, I doubt there are many thugs who would care who it belongs to!

But you're right, this is a topic for another forum. Thanks for the education.

For that purpose I do keep two nice Terriers.

Q: What does a terrier do, when there are two intruders?
A: Nobody knows, he hasn't reopened his jaws yet.

Furthermore I walk them, so everybody is warned...

I like to leave my kitchen knives out -just to give intruders a fair chance. My 90 lb lab Xena guards the kitchen. If an intruder makes it past xena he will have to deal with Biscuit. Now biscuit is a prairie dog that runs the living room an hallways.Any one who has owned a prairie dog knows they are fiercely loyal to their people. My dad tried to sneak up on me and still has the bite marks on his ankles.I'm not joking. In the wild they will fight a wolf if threatened. The usually lose though. If they make it past Xena and Biscuit well they better have a knife because I'm really going to be pissed..

You have a PRAIRIE DOG(!) as a pet?
ROTFLMAO, intensely!

, Ben E Hana!

Blilious,
It is my understanding that in Israel, everyone is encouraged to own firearms.
So, this is yet another erroneous piece of information I've come across, eh?

One would think that the governmaent would be most eager to uphold the citizen's right to keep and bear arms, given Israel's location and all.
If this is uncomfortable for you to reply to, no need to. okay?

In answer to your original Q, the knives are not locked up, but they probably should be.

Stay Safe, Buddy!

i hear ya jake, i have 2 100 plus pound dogs who also live in the house. everyone says...you keep them dogs in the house? i say of course i do, why would i want a dog if he has to live outside? if they are trained properly from puppyhood there is no problem and it's not very hard to do to boot. this should go in a dogs forum i guess....lmao

HELLO - this thread is about locking kitchen knives - NOT "dog of the week"
biggrin.gif

I would love to have some kind of dog - only my 15 years old (!) cat will probably won't like the idea too much..

Misque,

No, the Israeli Government does not encourage people to arm themselves. you see, like all so called liberal governments - they want to have the monopoly of power. reason and logic do not appeal to them.

on top of that - the level of training in Israel is rather low (except a few army units..)and carrying a gun in condition one is regarded crazy (which I do and therefor I an considered one)..
smile.gif

Now, that is a sad situation.
frown.gif

I pray that there are MANY more people like you who are prepared for any situation that might arise in your homeland.
G-D Bless and stay safe!
