Do you lube your back lock? With what?

Or do you run it dry?

🍿

I use whatever I grab first. Can be bike oil, coconut oil or sewing machine oil - once in a blue moon is enough.

I have been running my Pacific Salt 2 dry for several months now.

The action is very nice and pr now I don't see a need for lube. The pivot on this knife will never see any rust(LC200N) and as the action is good I think I am gonna continiue to run it dry and see how it fares.

Anybody else having good experience running their back lock dry?

I run my knives dry also. The oil can have a nasty habit of catching all the "crud"; and keeping it right where I least want it.

Yep, backlocks get lubed like any other knife. I noticed both of my Native Chiefs (s30 and s90) were pretty dry. Both were disassembled, washers lubed, and blade tang lubed. Helped out a ton.

If it needs it...
You should be able to feel increased friction upon opening. Add a drop of lube to the tang and that's usually all it takes.

Yes my thoughts a well.

I run it dry now, it is smoothe as can be(running dry) so I will just keep going. Less dust and lint clinging to the tang and locking notch.

BUT, if I get some friction I'll try:

1. Rinsing the lock as good as I can using hot water and soap.

2. If it is still bad, maybe do step 1 over again and add some KPL(gotta love that smell) or the heavier Multi-Tool Oil from Victorinox.

3. If there is grittines/friction after that its take-down time and full inspection, cleaning and lubing.

All my Salts are free of oil because
I don't see any difference on the water.

I leave all of my backlocks ziplocked in 5 oz of Nano oil overnight in a 89 degree incubator twice a week for optimal, juicy deployment.

Running your backlock dry is prone to throwing sparks behind the pivot. It will destroy the insides of the knife, and possibly get metal shards in your children's lungs.
