Do you need to seal a granite surface plate?

I know with things like granite counter tops and tiles you are supposed to seal them with something because natural stones all have a degree of porousness to them. I've been using my plate a bit lately and between spray adhesive, chemicals to remove the adhesive, plus whatever is getting onto it from wet sanding I was just wondering if there is a need to seal it? To the best of my knowledge the main reason to seal natural stones is to prevent things that can stain it from seeping in. But is there any need to seal a surface plate?

you dont need to do anything but clean it to keep anything from building up on the surface to make it uneven. there are special cleaners just for granite surface plates. my buddy has a 3' x 2' x 4" plate and they sent him a bottle of cleaner. i'll find out what it is and who makes it.

If it is a genuine Grade AA, grade A or Grade B surface plate ground to NIST standards (which are online-- Google surface plate specs), the surface has been milled literally to within millionths of an inch of tolerance. I would fear that applying any sealer would void that tolerance.
