Do you need two layer insulation on a heat treat oven?

Hey! I've been working on making an electric heat treat oven, and before I start welding my frame together I have a question. I'm using the standard K23 insulating fire bricks (4.5"x9"x2.5"). Is that good enough insulation on its own? Or do I need to add a layer of 1" ceramic wool insulation on top of the bricks? And if I don't add the ceramic wool, will my oven heat up any slower?
Thanks in advance everyone!

Personally I would add it. The entry units like evenheat and paragon are under insulated. I used k23 bricks and then 2 inches of Rockwool. It was cheaper and can handle the heat it receives. If you have ceramic though I would go ahead and use it. Just an aside but even with Rockwool and bricks after about an hour of runtime my oven shell is quite warm to the touch.

As far as heat time. I'm just thinking out loud someone with real knowledge correct me. I don't think heat time will be effected. Rather the oven will loose more heat thus it will draw more power to stay at temp and may have larger temperature swings.

There is no downside to a little extra insulation. The oven can get pretty hot if just the bricks aren't enough.
When that was an option from Evenheat it was called the Bill Burke Modification, because he started it.
