The other day i put oil on the plier joint and black goo started leaking out. I think its because the pliers dont use any kind of bushing, and the piviot is metal and metal, so when i oiled it for the first time it was flushing metal debrit out. Try it for yourself lay your leatherman down flat with the pliers extended, put a few drops of oil on the piviot wait ten min the open and close a few times and you will see all the blackened oil seeping out of the piviot. Silly question but why dont multi tool pliers use a bronze bushing on the piviots, Dont you thing there would be less wear??

I oil the pivot partly because I like to see the goo and partly because I know it will help the tool. All my multi pliers open and close smooth and I guess I'm not doing any harm.:)

I would think most any tool will need lubrication at some poit or another. I spray some WD-40 on all my tools periodically to keep them fully functional & also to keep the rust off.

I get your point about the bronze bushings though, seems to be a great idea for all tools with moving parts, especially multi's.

Do I oil the pivot/joints of my pliers?
Sure do now.
There was a time when I didn't oil nothing.
Until the day when them pliers seem pretty stiff at the joints.
Well, to put it plainly I applied way too much oil that first time; and was I shocked to see "dark red brown chocolate" keep oozing out around the pivot. At that point I was pretty sure that there are some places on a multiplier best left untouched by oiling. Now where possible, I prefer Teflon Lubricants.

Just so there's a "no" reply... No, I don't oil my Leatherman tools unless something is sticking. I don't even like to oil knives and only use a drop when I have to. I'd rather take a little wear than have excess oil get on things.
