Does patriotism impact your knife purchases? Do you think about where your money goes when buying a Dozier or a Fallkniven? Should it make a difference?

USA all the way, I have brought knives made outside of the U.S. in the past but lately I've decided to only buy Knives made in the USA, as I want to support my country. :D

Well, I have bought knives from this weird guy out in Hawaii.....

And what about buying from a US company even if they dont make it here? Like Spyderco

Not a problem for me because I haven’t brought from them as of yet...It depends? Are they made my U.S. hands? If not then I'd prefer something made by U.S. hands...prefer...I wouldn't not by a knife I really want if its made by a great company and it is outside of the U.S. its just that U.S. comes first.

I'd have to say patriotism has been affecting more and more of my purchases of late, Ford F150, Leatherman, Kershaw.... As long as Americans make a good product that I'm looking for, I'll buy American.

Too bad Nikes aren't made in America, but I guess that's for a different forum.

Does patriotism impact my knife purchases? Not really. I have a lot of international knives - Victorinox, Japanese-made Spydies, etc. It does do my red, white and blue heart good to know that industry leader Leatherman is an American brand.

That's a good point, like I bought from Cold Steel, a U.S. company, but their stainless blades are made in Japan. I'll go U.S. first, but I can't worry if they subcontract out with other countries.

P.S. For those folks who reside in other countries, feel free to tell us if patriotism impacts your knife purchases, too.

There is only one car made in the USA, with parts made in the USA by Americans. That's a Saturn:)

Not me. Quality comes first. If an American maker can make my knife the way I want it, I'll buy American. But you just have to go foreign for certain things. For instance, I carry a Victorinox SAK every day. The Swiss are the masters of the functional slipjoint.

I also have a Jens Anso Hybrid on the way. Jens is Danish, a great guy, and an artist in his creations. It would be a crime to ask an American maker to copy his unique style.

No. I look for a quality first and foremost. If I had my druthers I would always buy American, but in reality as long as I like the design and it is well executed I generally don't care where it comes from. There are places that I will not buy from, like China and Pakistan.

I have to chime in with GlenL on this issue. Like most people, I always ssought out quality. And truth be told, guns like the H&K USP and the SIG 229 (yes, I know the slide is made in the USA) need no defense. Over 15 years ago I bought a Chinese AK, and in those days it came with a pistol grip, high-caps, and a bayonet lug; it shot great, but my money went to Norico, their army shill.

But then I started to realize that a lot of companies were shipping stuff to Mexico, and that there isn't even one shoe factory in the USA. And while many quality foreign products exist, with a little searching you can find a great USA equivalent.

In the last three years, all of my purchases have been from the USA. I must admit that I did receive a free Chinese knife as a gift from a knife company, and it's a good one. But all the big stuff is Ford, Microtech or Strider.

Oh, there was a few Opinels. Gee, I wish they weren't French!

The concept of "Buying American" always makes me giggle a little. My son was selling some hammocks made in Brazil once at a craft fair. An older lady lit into him for not selling U.S. stuff. He leaned over and very politely told her the gas in, and many parts on her Oldsmobile were made outside the U.S. He even pointed out the diamond in her engagement ring was not found in the U.S. She was not convinced but, you know, ...never wrestle with a pig in the mud.

Those of you who are deluded into thinking that if you buy a Ford, Texaco gas, or Birdseye broccoli you are always "buying American", you are living in your own little world of delusion! It would be nice to just buy American, but you don't and you can't!

I bought a custom hunting knife from Matt Harildstad in Canada so I bought "North American" even though I didn't buy strictly U.S.

I thought we were talking about knives not cars
My fault :footinmou I was just trying to say that people buy things everyday that are not American made and that couldn't change when it comes to quality knives such as CRKT and Spyderco :)

I carry a SOG Pentagon II in honor of our wounded deffence center. I think this knife makes a clear statement about American values. The pentagon is big, strong, fortifided, and has missle strike capabilities.

I prefer quality, not the politics buying my knifes. U know americans can make lot's of **** too (remember bear cuttery ?

Some people prefer to pay extra for political reasons, and that's ok,
but if someone don't buy quality product that he/she likes only becouse it was mad in china, germany, japan or whater IMHO it's stupid :)

No...I also buy those that are made in Seki, Japan; (some SOGs and Spydercos). However, I WON'T buy knives that are made in Pakistan.

i try to buy made in usa. if i find a knife i like and i cant get the american equivalent (design, quality) ill buy from a foreign corp.

i like supporting american companies and will pay a little extra to do so. that said, i do understand market economics so no lectures please.
