Depends on the knife. On some knives, it looks great when the furniture matches the drapes (all-steel), but on others the contrast of brass is just lovely.

The contrast of brass liners and pins to the silver of the blade and springs is beautiful.

On multiple blade knives I sometimes like a brass center liner with NS/SS scale liners and bolsters. And it has to be brass for me on the Buck 110. I think it's just the way it's meant to be.

This sums it up for me too but I do have a fondness for stainless steel liners like those found on many custom knives, Case/Bose collaborations knives, etc.

As long as the steel is stainless but it's true that brass is the only option on some knives

Brass and steel is yin and yang. Balance is necessary to bring the world into harmony.

steel, less stinky

If the knife is going to be kept polished, brass all the way. For a knife that I am going to use and let age, steel floats my boat.

I am another steel guy. Iron, low carbon, stainless.

I like the look as they age (for the low carbon/mild steel). I also like the feel. More solid, denser (though I don't really know). I also feel the steel reacts better when I drop them. The dents are less damaging.

I will say, some of my brass lined knives some times seem to feel better in the action.

Also not in the poll, I like nickel silver liners too. I have a few Queen collaboration that appear to be NS liners and bolsters. It makes for a tidy look.

I pretty much always prefer silver to brass. Be it steel or nickel silver. I totally think shiny brass clashes with brass. Gabon ebony was meant to be paired with all steel in my vote. Brass looks good with brown hues and stag, however if these were offered with all steel I would opt for steel.

I would prefer steel liners for 1095 blades and springs and nickel silver for stainless steel. I think it just looks better.
