Do you prefer spear or tanto points?

I'm considering another Emerson lately...will probably have to put off the mini-C for a while...maybe a Blackbird or another CQC7 B, can't decide which.

For you Emerson fans out there, do you prefer the chisel tanto or the spear/clip blade versions? It seems to me the Emerson tantos would be easy to resharpen due to being a chisel grind, though the only chisel edge I've had to redo was my CQC7 A, which was successful and easy.

Which do you prefer for chores and/or outdoor uses?
Thanks for any replies!

All of mine, where I have had a choice, have been Tanto blades.

I use them daily for anything and everything and the blade shape has never let me down. Give it a go, you won't be dissapointed !

For general applications, the spear/clip takes it. Tantos have piercing ability, but the spear/clip has more overall usefulness in real life day-to-day uses. Just my two cents.

I think both have advantages, but my perference is the spear point.
The tanto point though is a more accurate cutting tool and easier to sharpen.

Being a female though, i go for looks LOL and i love the look of a spear point moreso than the tanto :)

I love the look of the tanto (both Japanese and American "geometric" style), but I have to admit, the spear/drop/clip point is a lot easier for me to use.

My first knife (CRKT M16) was a tanto point, and while it had great grind and did the job, I never realized how much easier it was to cut packages with a full curved grind until I tried it.

The chisel grind on the Emerson tantos also tend to cut in a curved line, which makes stripping cardboard unpleasant.

That having been said, I carry a La Griffe as an EDC (chisel ground) and a number of drop/clip/spear points as my utility.

Thanks for the feedback, all!
I might be interested in a waved CQC7, and so will be checking them out tomorrow at the local gun show. They only come out in the tanto point. I actually already own two CQC7A's and one B, plus a La Griffe, but love to read what are other people's preferences and experiences with various knives and blade styles.

To be honest, I have had a love-hate relationship with tanto points, but it *seems* to me the Emerson chisel-ground versions ought to be easier to sharpen at the secondary edge near the tip, as that edge is as sharp as the primary. In most other tanto folders, the secondary edge is considerably thicker ground edge than the primary edge, and can be harder to sharpen for me. So far the only single-side bevel I've resharpened is one of my CQC7A's and it was pretty easy to get a very sharp edge back on it. I'm looking forward to trying out the wave feature, and if I get it will look into putting reinforcing material in the corner of my pocket so I can wave it with impunity. :)
