Do you prefer the Stockman?

My EDC has changed to the point that I am now enjoying carrying a fixed blade as well as a traditional knife. When it comes to having a traditional with more than one blade I have always considered myself to be a trapper kind of guy but recently my eye has been leaning towards that of the Stockman pattern. It just seems more utilitarian.

So, if you carry a stockman, post a pic of it and why you dig this pattern.

Thanks!

I used to. The stockman is the pattern that first sucked me into the world of slipjoints. I still like like them. But for an everyday knife, I prefer the comfort of single blade patterns.

The stockman is my favorite pattern, and I have over a dozen that I carry with some regularity. But the following pictures are of the core EDCs.

I do very much like the stockman pattern. Having a three blade choice is great, as long as the knife is not too bulky. While I have been carrying my #66 Calf Roper quite a bit lately, I recently picked up a Queen 09 in CZ just like black mamba's. It will be getting some serious pocket time.

I like the Stockman. I'm even carrying the one in the picture today. For me, the sheepsfoot blade is perfect for most tasks, the clip is great for food prep, and the spey gets used for whittling.

Same here. Later I found the half-whittler and Mini Copperlock paterns. The thin, single spring models just sit in the pocket better.

I much prefer the stockman over the tapper. The stockman gives you three various blade shapes, always presenting you with pretty much the proper blade to fit the task. I LOVE how a stockman gives you a sheepsfoot, preferably a nice big one. Then again, I do a lot of whittling.

I hate how a trapper gives you a large spay blade. I've always considered the spay to be the broccoli of blades shapes. :barf::barf::barf:

Broccoli? That's some tasty stuff!:D:thumbup::thumbup: But I do agree with you about Spey blades, they look awkward and I find no use for them. You can of course get those 'Enlightened Stockman' who has a Pen instead of a Spey, or the sleek and very swoopy GEC Dixie that has an impressive set of blades. As for Trappers, not my pattern choice unless Slimline or Wharncliffe. I actually prefer a Copperhead over a Trapper, although they are a bit heavy.

Let's not forget Whittlers either, they're a very handy and pocket easy 3 blade knife as well.

Thanks, Will

The stockman is my all time favorite pattern. Maybe it goes back to my fathers small cheapo Sabre that I thought was cool when I was a kid. When I first started collecting I was all over the place. Customs, boot knives, Rolox, Al Mar, Jot Khalsa, Jim Serven. I had to pic an EDC so it was a Case 63032 that I carried for several years. Stockman's just fit the bill.

Gone but not forgotten. One of my favorites in D2.

I have a Case med Stockman (use it more at home) and a Case large Stockman. The large is a great work knife. handles all kinds o tasks, I use it a lot. As far as the Trapper Spey blade goes, I think it amazing on cardboard, especially really tough, and when you need to make really long cuts, the spey is amazing. I like the Stockman pattern very much.

This.

I will more readily carry a couple of single blade slipjoints, than a stockman. It is still my favorite pattern, and I still go gaga over old stockmans and cattlemans at shows and flea markets. Whether my old green jigged bone Imperial or my ebony Northfield 81 from a couple years ago, I still prefer them. I'm looking at how I can afford the Case Bose 2015 stockman.

I wasn't a Case medium stockman fan, about ten years back. The knives didn't seem to be tightly built, and they weren't very beefy. I got burned on a couple of them.

My new Case/Carhartt medium stockman is much different. Awesome quality. Did Case do a rebuild on their medium stockman? The fit and finish on this is really quite excellent.

Love the G-10 and satin finished blades. Gives are very rugged appearance that matches the Carhartt branding well.

I certainly like (prefer) a Stockman pattern. I like others as well (Jacks, Congress, Whittlers) but a good Stockman has them all beat for versatility. OH

A few of my favorites (Buck 301 - had it the longest, since NOV 1970) ( Case 5318 - my purtiest - perfect stag handles) (Case 6347 - my most frequently carried) (Schrade 1775-1975 Minute Man - newest, arrived today).
