Don't misunderstand me, I will only buy strong folders, here I am talking about those "extremely strong" folders like a strider.

IMO, the only chance that I need that extreme toughness is when I go camping/hunting. And a strider's folder is so uncomfortable to carry that I will rather take a fixed blade instead-- I don't need to care about sheeples at that time anyway. The reasons that I need a folder are simple: easy to carry and sheeple friendly. And a sebenza looks pretty good for the purposes.

I have both and yes the Sebenza is easier to carry
but I would rather have the larger Strider when the
"$hit" hits the fan."

If I cant have a fixed blade, then I will have a folder that is essentially a fixed blade!

Will you really use a folder that expensive to pry something? I guess most of us will like to spend some time to find something instead to do such jobs. No matter what kind of lock is used on a folder, the toughness of a folder is limited by the toughness of a short piece of rivet between the blade and the handle. A folder can never be as strong as a fixed blade of the same blade thickness. So what I expect for the busse folder is something that exploiting the maximum toughness for its size while small and slim enough for comfortable carry.

Why on earth would anyone use a knife to pry with anyway? Knives are meant for cutting and slicing, maybe light chopping.

Ok, Busse knives can be used for heavy chopping, but still ya shouldnt pry with them! Should you?

I pry with them all the time, not just light prying either, but heavy duty stuff. When I was remodeling my basement I used my BA-e as a crow bar, I had a bar(like for liquor) that was attached to the concrete floor. I would ram the Badger under the bar and then pry it up enough to get the crow bar under, then i'd remove and repeat until the bar was loose from the floor. If I can't pry with it, I ain't carrying it ;):D:D

Perhaps if my knife use was restricted to only-in-my-house, I'd be thinking "The right tool for the right job--Knives are meant for cutting and slicing, prybars are meant for prying."

But when I head into the wilderness under my own power, and can only take what I can carry, (hard as this may be to believe) I don't carry a prybar, a shovel, a saw, a hammer, an axe, a drill, and a food processer. I want to travel through the outdoors fast and light (as much as this is still possible while lugging a full complement of pro photo gear), so, instead of thinking "The right tool for the right job" I try to make it "The best single tool for any job I might need in a pinch."

Within this context, is it that hard to imagine why on Earth I might occasionally pry with a knife, instead of adding an additional fifty pounds of specific-use tools to my pack?

Every time you cut with a knife you are prying with it to a certain extent, the harder the material the more significant the lateral loads that will be induced.

In regards to a folder, there are many places that restrict the carry/use of fixed blades and thus a secure and strong folder would be an asset. While it is legal here to carry a fixed blades openly, it attracts a lot of attention. Having the same functionality in a folder would be very nice.

It is far from impossible to create such a folder, the main reason it isn't done is because the focus is usually on other aspects such as ease of opening and closing, and "smoothness" of the lock. An ordinary lockback with a deep recess and an one-piece stainless handle would be a very strong and secure folder.

While an AR Strider is on my to get list, I have to ask if this knife really is a lot stronger than my Large Sebenza? I have had a good look at the GB? Strider (the tanto folder) and I have to say while it is only;) a liner lock it did impress me greatly for size and power. Though the tanto blade did not appeal at all.

I suppose what I am trying to say is if the AR Stider is as much of a chore to carry, why bother? To me because I want a Strider blade for my collection, it has the tiger stripe effect on the blade and it uses the latest steels oh and its a 4" blade whilst my Sebi is a mear 3.5"!:p

A 4" blade would be my ideal folder size... Even in the UK. My Small wood Sebi, just feels to small for me, even though I bet it would out perform most blades of 4" esp with its Damascus steel blade.:D
