I am just jumping in with only a few posts, but I am getting knives sharper than ever and I am a bit afraid to "just hand it to someone to cut something". Does this happen to you guys?

Nah, the people that I'm actually willing to hand my knives to know very well how sharp I can get them. Heck, if my stepdaughter uses my knife to cut something and the blade hangs up at all she'll happily inform me that I need to sharpen it.

No problem here. No one uses my knives except me. If some one asks, I volunteer to do the cutting for them.

I will flat out refuse to hand my knives to anyone other than the Misses. I know that she knows how to handle a knife respectfully and won't abuse one.

Just about everyone else who asks to borrow a knife will get a "loaner" if I have one on me, or me asking what they needed cut and I will cut it for them.

Too many horror stories to share. I am Very willing to learn from others mistakes, as well as my own.

Yyyyyep, people at work ask me all the time. I work for an ambulance service, so u never know if there gonna cut open a package or try and tighten a loose screw with it. Lol. So I always ask what its for cutting. Then they look at me like I'm nuts. Lol

In general. I do not hand my knives to anyone. If they need something cut, I offer to do it myself if I am carrying the right knife for the job.

I think I know what you mean and yeah, I do consider it. There are a lot of threads concerning handing over your knife to others on here. People are rather varied on it though.

Personally, I tend not show or hand over my knives. If someone wants something cut, I'll do it for them...if it's sane and not someone needing a screw undone or to pry a brick.

If I think someone may abuse my knife or use inappropriately, no. But not worried if someone cuts themselves. In fact it happens all the time....and it makes me smile. Since I started doing my own sharpening, many have "tested" my edges, and handed it back bleeding. Love to hear...."I didn't think it was going to be THAT sharp."

Once at the office someone asked to borrow a knife to cut a pie they had brought. I just handed them one of my cheap loaner knives that I keep scattered on my desk. When brought back I was told that "no knife should ever be that sharp". I just smiled and said, "what exactly do you think a knife's purpose is?"

The only knife I'll allow someone to use is my dedicated idgaf about knife that has a working edge on it...

I've learned my lesson on handing my edc blade over to some moron who will use it as a screwdriver or attempt to cut steel banding with it. Nope not happening a second time.

Non issue for me too. I don't hand people my knives. Last time I let someone use one of my knives (my wife), she ended up keeping it. Now it's her knife. I do keep it sharp for her, though.

There are a handful of people that I will let use my knives, for everyone else I cut what needs to be cut.

Most people are not use to sharp knives or tools and have bad cutting techniques that lean heavily to the side of personal injury.

If it is some one I trust, I warn them, but many still cut them selves.

One of my favorites was my brother. He knows how sharp I like to keep my knives (all my family does). I handed him a convex knife with a full convex zero grind. No discernable edge bevel. I warned him it was sharp. He cut all 4 fingers while proclaiming it had no edge. He did not notice he was bleeding until I told him he was bleeding.

He had never seen a knife with that type of grind.

Oh that's easy. I carry a little all stainless lock back I found in the street. It fits in an out of the way place on my tool belt at work. That is all I will lend. If they don't have a knife of their own, EDC of some kind, then they probable should not be handling a great knife. I'm not about to give them a chance to prove that with anything I care about..

I keep all my knives hair poppin sharp and have no issue if someome needs to borrow it. If they are dumb enough to cut themselves, thats their fault and no concern of mine.

Had a buddy's brother ask me to see how sharp my EDC was. I told him it was scalpel sharp. He laughed and mashed his thumb on the blade and slid it. I saw the bone before the blood started gushing. Stupid is as stupid does.

Umm I can't even comprehend this level of stupidity...

Only afraid because they frequently damage my beautifully hand sharpened edges :(

I just don't lend knives.

the only people who touch my knives are me and my wife.

but yes, i am worried about other people touching my knives - i lost a Spyderco Roadie with a freshly applied mirror polished scary sharp edge on it, i really really hope it fell down a drain or was found by a fellow knife knut.
