Do you skin/butcher with your Busse?

Last month I nailed a rabbit that was eating all my pepper plants. Thanks to that little bastard I only got one pepper this year. So I set up my nest, screwed the can on my 10/22 and got rid of the problem.

I skinned and butchered him with a brand new Mora 511 and now that knife has either some folds or nicks in the blade. I have another one but I'm guessing my TGLB or CGBJ wouldn't have struggled.

My only concern was that after I broke through the neck and spine the blade contacted my concrete patio...again, a Busse probably would have taken it without folding or dulling.

Anyone here use their Busse for skinning and/or butchering? Pics??

Thanks

Yes my B4 is my main blade for all things dead critter these days .... :D Some pics later ... ;)

I can't help you with rabbit. But with whitetail and hogs I use the following and think any of them would work just fine on bunnies.

CABS....

Four inch blade is my preference for whitetail. Although I've also used a BAD and a Cultie and they worked fine. Pigs are a bit more work due to the thicker hide and hair, so I generally go with a 5-5.5" blade for them. Modified SAR 5 works great, but 5" Culberson in 52100 is tough to beat. Hogs are awful tough on a knife edge especially if they've been rolling in mud. It's like cutting into sandpaper with your edge.

they do just fine breaking down critter's. here are a few shot's of the scrap yard muk, and busse muk. even after cutting through the tendon's and knuckle's of the lower leg's the edge was fine.

that is not a nick in the blade.

I bought a new rodent trail for just this purpose. A review will be here in the next month.

I have always like the scrap muk and the MUK. Wish I had got one. I used a ScrapMax 460 for some butchery while I had mine. I thought it was a great compromise for a hunter/butcher/boning knife.

I think I have used all of my Busse-kins at one time or another to undress an animal. They all have done an amazing job. I do prefer my SCABS or Vex, which I tend to grab most of the time.

RWT, I am really looking forward to your review on the trail. Also, please post whatever comparison pics you can.

If you're talking rats, too, they do well in the rough stuff.

An RMD used to take apart this bull in the manner oge14 shows above. I did not handle it with kid gloves, and it held up very well.

I've used my CABS and BJLE on deer. Both have been awesome. Skinning & butchering was easier with the CABS, but field dressing was easier with the BJLE. The edge lasted long enough to get both jobs done with one knife though.
There's no 5" choiless option, but that may be a decent compromise if it was ground thin enough.

I typically have my Rat Trap with me when I hunt, it comes in handy for a lot of stuff!

I have lost count of how many deer my Active Duty has taken care of. It has been on my belt or in my pack for the last 10 years of hunting and never missed a beat.
