Hello all -

I am new to BladeForums and would like to hear your comments on whether you would consider investing in having custom filework / scale replacement done on a Moore Maker / Camillus model 3209 DLB (see link from an expired eBay listing). I would be using the knife for small game processing during hunting season, and displaying it during the off-season. I have never had a problem with the Camillus knives I've owned, and this one is unique in that it is the only trapper type knife I've found with dual locking clip point and spey blades. I have not owned a Moore Maker knife up to this point.

If anyone here owns this particular knife, I would like to hear back regarding its quality and long-term durability. Thanks in advance for the help...

Your link format is incorrect.

The custom work is cosmetic only and it's a matter of personal taste. It looks fine to me as is. I'd most likely use it as is. It might be nice rehandled with stag also. Filework is not my cup of tea, especially on a knife used to process game... but I would most likely use a fixed blade for that purpose.

I've owned a few Camillus knives as well as Moore Maker knives that were made by Queen (one of my favorite patterns) but never Moore Maker made by Camillus. Camillus made some nice knives so I think it should hold up well.

I myself have 4 different versions of the Camillus 716 DLB pattern. I'll tell you that they got 440C correct.

I say its up to you. If that is your favorite knife pattern/blade selection/cover material, and you want to dress it up, go for it. It's about what you like, not what we think you should do. I myself, have ideas about cannibalizing a knife or two, just to get the combination that I want into one knife. Do what pleases you.

I can see doing that to a more expensive knife like a Case or GEC or a Spyderco but then that is what makes our world go around as people have different taste ! I have a dozen Buck 110's that are fully Engraved and people ask me why
and I just say because I like them like that.!** Only me.* lol { But then I also have some Spydies and Customs Engraved and they think they look good.!* } Go figure.++
If you think you would like to get it Engraved then go for it as you only live once.^^

Your Moore Maker is a Camillus made knife if made no later than 2007. MM knives often have the date stamped on the blade.
As others have said, if Camillus made it is a good knife that should last for decades.
Why not just sharpen and use it ? Find another knife you like to 'dress up' and have it be your 'show knife'.
