Do you think my Buck 501 can be carried in pocket without sheath?

Just wondering if any other 501 owners carry their knife in pocket. Whenever I carry my 501, I use the belt sheath but I've been thinking about carrying it without sheath in pocket. I guess if it was meant to be carried in pocket Buck wouldn't have included the sheath right?

Also, I took a photo of my 501 which shows the blade off center. Can this be corrected by Buck or should I just live with it?

Yes, at 3 oz and 3.75" long, you can pocket carry it. It helps if you wear loose fitting pants. As for the off center blade, it is a discretionary move on your part. If it really bugs you, then send it in. I could probably live with it, or try peening the pivot pin myself to see if it straightens out.

I pocket carried a 501 everyday for years in my 20's.... untill one day it exited my pocket on the freeway while riding my motorcycle.
All I could do was watch it bouncing away in the mirror, knowing I couldn't retrieve it.....

I still pocket carry one occasionally

Definately one of my favorites.

I've never carried mine in a sheath and it's never caused me a problem.

I was curious to see if Buck is able to do anything about the blade being off center so I sent it in to the warranty dept. I will post an update on my knife when I get it back. Regardless, I still love the knife and miss it already.

Any knife can be carried in a pocket. Its not so much about if you could as much about if you should.

I carry mine in my right front pocket, vertically, next to my small money clip wallet. Fits nicely and with the wallet in there i think it is more apt not to eject itself.
The only worry i can think of would be getting pocket lint in the locking mechanism. So far that hasnt been an issue for me, and if it were to happen im sure it would be an easy fix..

If you carry it in your back pocket, right in with your wallet, it shouldn't show too badly. I'm not 100% on that, but I can fit my Buck 314 in that pocket and it doesn't show up at all.
