Do you use a lanyard or fob?

Hi everyone!

Do you use a lanyard or even a fob for your SAK? I've purchased a few lanyards, but every time I put one on, I find it too cumbersome, nor have I found a way to keep it attached to my belt the way I like.

Also, to really use it, you need a means to unattach it quickly or you need a long lanyard to give yourself the needed "working" space. If attached, the lanyard is too noticeable for my liking. I am aware that a lanyard, when attached to your belt or belt loop, prevents the loss of your pocketknife.

Haven't attached a fob, although the braided ones I've seen in this forum look great. Still, what use are they aside from decoration or a visual marker, and maybe as a means to grab the SAK from your pocket?

For pocket carry, I always end up just putting the SAK in my pocket, maybe with a kerchief or folded tissue.

So, how useful is a lanyard or fob to you? Inquiring minds want to know :D

I use lanyards and fobs, but prefer a lanyard that's clipped to a belt loop and hangs down into my pocket. I sometimes use a longer one that can also be clipped to itself for use as a wrist lanyard when around water, up a ladder, or anywhere that if dropped, the knife, tool, or light it's attached to might be lost for good. If I don't want the lanyard on the knife/tool when I'm using it, I just reverse the attachment points by looping the lanyard onto my belt loop and having the swivel clip on the knife/tool end for quick detachment.

I don't use one for EDC but religiously use one around water. I've lost too many (insert item here) over the side or during a capsize. I use a longish lanyard so I don't have to unclip it.

When I'm camping and sometimes carrying around a SAK or multi loose in my pocket, I'll put a loop of paracord on it and pass it through a belt loop to prevent loss.

Thank you for your responses! Your reasons are all pretty sound on the use of a lanyard

I've tried several different lanyard/leash attachments on knives and always seem to end up removing them in favor of simple pocket carry.

stevekt: Yeah, me too, but I need to remind myself to attach one when the occasion arises. I still remember the sinking feeling I had when I thought I lost my red alox pioneer. Then I found it on the floor of the driver's seat of my car :)

My SAK Pioneer has a loop of paracord attached. Nothing fancy, just a Chris Reeve knot. You never know when you need some paracord!
