Do you use rope wraps on the handles of your axes/tomahawks ?

I've just wrapped some 3,5'' of the hanlde (near the axe head) on my Wetterlings 19'' Hunter. It should prevent any damage on the handle when chopping and splitting wood.
I've first sanded that portion of the handle and then applied epoxy resin. Then I've wrapped some 0,25'' thick rope and again applied epoxy resin.I've used a lot of resin so it should be pretty robust.
I'll let it dry for a couple of days on my balcony under direct sunlight :)
I'll post a picture of it tomorrow, because it dark right now (21:38 PM :D ).
It's my first time doing it so it may not be pretty but it's going to be tough for sure

I have seen this sort of thing done, with paracord, or with plastic things that fit over the shaft.

I would love to see what yours looks like.

G'day ZombaiO

Like Marion, I have seen others do this.

Personally I haven't done this to my hatchet or axes.

I'd like to see what it looks like

Kind regards
Mick

It's my first wrap so it's nowhere near perfect, but it'll do just fine for some serious beating. At the very end I've runned out of epoxy resin,so I used some epoxy based glue (Poxipol) - it's the white stuff. It's not the same color as the epoxy, but I think that after some use the both of them would look equally dirty,so there won't e any noticeble difference :D
Now with this wrap I won't worry to beat the crap out of my lovely axe :D

ZombaiO- Just a suggestion to make it look better and last longer...

Next time you wrap one ( or if you need to rewrap this one) look up whipping on the net and follow those directions. If you whip your cord on then the ends will end up tucked under and will hold each other to prevent the ends from revelling and the cord from coming off, plus you won't need the glue to hold it all in place.

Basically the way you whip cord is to take the cord and lay it along whatever you're whipping it too, then fold it into a loop and bring the running end back to where you started and lay your thumb over both. Now you'll have a loop laying on the handle above your thumb. Take the running end in the other hand and begin wrapping just above your thumb (start your wrap by crossing over the tail and continue in that direction) continue wrapping until you have covered the area you want to cover then go through what is left of the loop. After the running end is passed through the loop you pull the tail until the loop is under the wraps then cut the running end off and pull just a little more until the end is under the wraps. After that all you have to do is cut of the tail as close to the wraps as you can then take something and push the tail back up under the wraps as well.

P.S. I haven't used an axe or a walking stick with a cord wrap but I have done several for other people.

Seriously, it will hold better and even look better.

Holding better should be a concern if using it for overstrike protection, You don't want your cord unravelling and entangling you, causing you to lose balance and fall onto a sharp stick, or down a precepice:D

I don't think that the cord will stand to serious impacts without glue.I've tucked the end uder the last wrap ;)
