Do you use your Custom XM ?

Most of mine......no.......but I have one 3.5 satin sterile spanto that is my beater that I have no problem using for anything.......I bought it with scratches on the blade so I could really enjoy using a custom and not worry if I added to the scratches.......I also have a 3" WF spearpoint that I am happy to use........but I use it mostly for light stuff......

I only own users both my 3.5 and 3 see use. I was cutting insulation bats the other day with 3.5 because I was t lazy to go down to my truck. Held up good but you want to see a knife dull quick cut up some insulation screw cardboard.

Shingles or drywall, great ways to dull your knife fast. Disposable blades were made for those tasks. :)

Tools for the Task, That's why God gave us "Tool Bags".......

If Hurricane Tidy Didy was bearing down on me and I had to get my last shingle in place to protect my dear mother-in-law, I'd send her out back to the shed to get my trusty "yellow" box-cutter (in this case shingle-cutter) and bring it to me ^Up^ the ladder.
My XM (let alone a Custom) isn't cutting dry-wall or shingles or anything like that.

As some may remember, I did stab and cut open my HVAC ductwork a number of years ago to save my beloved cat "Sam" and would do that again in a NY minute to save His life (don't tell mom-in-law) but I really really Love Sam :).

Still have Sam and that particular Hinderer, hope to have both for a good long time.

That custom Bowie is steel art rather than a user. Rick has made some beautiful "artsy" knives over the years and you sir happen to own one. If you scratch it up value goes down, I'd hunt down a production Bowie for a user, but hey it's your knife, either way enjoy.

That's the beauty of RHK offering production versions of Rick's custom grinds. Alternatives are nice.

It's made to cut and cut it will do or I have no use for it. I believe in hard use and if my $500 knife has to be pampered than what's the point of all that uber tough frame and super steel. I give no mercy or quarter and if the knife cant hang then in my book it's crap and can go. If a cheap replacement blade out cuts my super knife there is a problem. I don't expect it to replace my sawzall or pry bar but it better out preform my razor knife.

Where do I get a $500 custom...I hope your mistaken and talking about your production or your the luckiest guy on the planet.

I use this one for projects around the house...that is what WF is best at...right, Ross:)

If the custom Onion military for sale here was a smaller model I would have paid $2000 and it too would have been used. Why buy a hard use super duper tactical knife that cost so much and not use it. My cordless drills cost about the same as a Hindere I use them I don't leave them in a safe and grab a screwdriver when real work comes up. It does not make sense to me but to each there own.

Let's leave the topic as "personal preference" and leave it at that. Seen these threads go downhill quickly before.

These threads do pop up from time to time.

Firstly...allow me to push this disabled garbage truck back uphill...all I ask is that you put it in neutral and steer it away from the rough.

We here use our Hinderers. And some here collect in at least two ways if not more. One way is collect as in proud to own something special and treat it as such. But there's another collect--gather several XMs and maybe have a couple that don't see near the use of others.

I did not mean to give offense I really meant that the only way to truly appreciate the functionality of a good tool is to use it to find out if its all the manufacturers claims and the hype is true. I really think those who don't use there knives are missing out on some great fun and I can say I have learned a lot about what works and does not work for me what is comfortable and what is not. I have bought a lot of tools over the years, the older I get and the more experience I gain I really appreciate a well thought out well made tool. If collecting is your thing I mean no offense just try banging one up once and awhile it feels good you will like it I promise and once its banged up you wont sell it you will just keep using it. Its like a new car after awhile you stop caring and it just becomes yours lived in and just the way you like it.

I have been told that I am a bit course or that my tone does not come through in text or type. I apologize for that and truly don't mean to to stir up trouble or cast stones.

I look at it this way, it is the buyer's money, they can do whatever they want with their money, what they spend it on, how much they spend and how they use the items they buy. Frankly, it is no one else's business.

To the OP, I have used certain of my customs, but I carry a production 3" wharnie daily. I agree with what Hammer stated above.

As my knife collection shrinks but becomes much much higher quality which comes with much higher price tags I find that I enjoy the full experience of owning a high quality knife and using it to get a return on my investment not rather than the return being a future sale. Every scratch adds a little character ( a small disclaimer that I do not buy or own lavishly embellished knives just higher end users and I don't currently own a Hinderer custom but if I ever am that lucky I can't imagine not using it)

Many own things like cars and homes that they use daily and sometime subject to abuse (often by actions not their own) and these things make even custom knife purchases seem minuscule in comparison. Yet a door still slams, a tire still barks or smokes, a vehicles stoping distance is actually tested in real life once in awhile and so on...yet, these costs are rarely criticized or examined like those of knives. Even nice watches hit a door frame from time to time.

Just sayin'.
