Do You Use Your Damascus Blade?

No, most of my damascus is on collectors, but a couple may see some use eventually.

Kevin

EDIT: Unless of course you are including kitchen knives, in which case the answer is yes, .....sort of.

I have 4 qty VG10/Damascus laminated blades that get used daily, but technically they are VG10 blades dressed in their Sunday goin' to meeting finery.

I have three Kershaw Skylines in damascus, a Leek in damascus and three Shallots in damascus. Out of these I think the most use I've gotten out of them was cleaning them and looking at the pretty layers.

I've been using a Mcusta basic series damascus folder (of which I own several) with a cocobolo handle for a few months now, and I use it to cut cardboard all the time. It was way beyond shaving-sharp when I bought it and has a fit and finish that could easily command a significantly higher price.

The Mcusta interpretation of "damascus" is somewhat different from the classic kind of damascus blades. Nothing wrong with Mcusta, I also have one with their damascus blade, it's just different.
I also have a few other folders in classic damascus steel, not the more modern stainless damasteel product. So, mine like most classic damascus are not stainless. Therefore I have used them but I never dared to bring them in contact with food as I am afraid that for example lime juice could stain the nice pattern terribly. Comments on my paranoia?

YES!!

Depending on mood, I sometimes carry either a Kershaw Leek Damascus or a Case Stag Barlow raindrop Damascus.

Why buy them if I'm not going to use and enjoy them!

Have not used it yet, but carry my Boker Magnum Lady Damascus lock back in the bottom of my right front pocket and will use it if needed.

I have a Case 6107, a single blade mini trapper 3 1/2 " in damascus that I carry. It gets nice and sharp and holds an edge maybe a little bit better than Cases CV. I just use the knife for light duty cutting of boxes, apples and packages.

I carry and use my damascus and mammoth slipjoint from Dan Warren, JS all the time it is a great knife.

Like Jim, I carry and use my Don Hanson III slippie pretty much daily.

I sure do use my damascus blades. I don't abuse them, but then again I don't abuse my non-damascus knives either. If I use a damascus blade for food prep, I make sure and clean it off well. Other than than that, no worries. They look great and I find that the most "toothy sharpness" that I like, not surprisingly comes from these blades.

I'm a newcomer to this forum---sorry if I come across as a newbie. Anyway, have a very nice Benchmade carry around---a great knife. But I'm in the market for a "reasonably" priced Damascus blade, something about 3.5" in blade length. Up to $300 or so would be fine. I've looked at Boker and at Kershaw. Any recommendations? (What I'm looking for is a knife not so beautiful that I can't use it!)

Thanks.
