Do you use your Spyderco at work and what do you do with it?

I use this Spyderco Pacific Salt model at work on the boats and Submarine that I work on. It is constantly getting wet in Pacific Ocean water and I use it hard every day cutting rope gaskets rubber and anything else that needs cutting. Here it is when I was making a Blue Steel Rope basket on a Polyform F10 fender on our larger boat.
After that picture are a few underwater shots that I took around the submarine at work yesterday.

Yes I do, but nothing as exciting as that. Wow

I mainly cut plastic film samples, stretch wrap, pallet tags off of cardboard boxes, printer paper packages, maybe an apple at lunch.

I enjoy the work but it is not really what I would call exciting. It's actually pretty routine most of the time. The other day we had to change out that aft thruster, which is a challange, but we have it down to a science now and it goes pretty smooth. I carry a larger Scubapro diving knife when I am in the water, or sometimes a Randall model 16, if I'm feeling dangerous!

I do have to sharpen this Spyderco H1 knife on a regular basis but it remains corrosion free.

Very cool, have you tried any dendritic cobalt blades? Has Spyderco ever ventured that far?

No I have not had a Dendritic Cobalt knife becuase I have not been looking for them and I haven't seen one that has a useable handle. Probably because I just have not looked into them enough. I do have a Spyderco with the L200C blade but I have not broken it out yet, because I was kind of waiting to see if this H1 Salt failed at some point. I also use a Spyderco Autonomous when I am diving that has an H1 blade, but it is fully serrated and I don't care for that as much as a plain edge.

I don't know how this alloy differs from dendritic cobalt but this is a knife that I have had since the old days and is made form Haynes Alloy no.25. The saw edge will cut steel anchor chain and it does not corrode at all, as well as being completely anti magnetic. Haynes alloy no.25 consists of -
Limiting Chemical Composition, %

Carbon........................................................................0.05-0.15

Manganese.....................................................................1.0-2.0

Silicon.........................................................................0.40 max.

Not at my current gig, but in my last real job I was not allowed anything with a "point" (it was a pointless rule, and yes, that was on purpose :) ) So I carried a roadie a lot as my general purpose knife, and when I was out on field trips I decided to get a sheepsfoot Caribbean, since we did a lot of coastal sea kayaking. I do also have an H1 manbug attached to my tackle bag, but that doesn't count for work. I could carry my slippy lil'native at work, but since all I do now is open boxes and strip wire, my leatherman gets that job. So my spydie collection is pretty well recreational now.

I am sure it is a combo of the geometry and steel, but that sounds awesome. I mean, looking at the usages listed here, seems most of us could make do with an Opinel no. 8, but I wonder what this stuff is close/comparable to in composition. I'm no metallurgist but I wonder if someone else knows better than me, what that may be near to.

I am about to be there too, John. I only work 3 days a week now and it probably won't be long before that goes to zero days a week.
Enjoy!! I am a retired house painter. When I first retired I got calls from people that wanted paint done for almost free since I was retired!! 🤣🤣

what is the maker and model of that one?

The Imperial UDT nonmagnetic dive knife was designed for the early Seal teams that were doing UDT work in the early 1960’s and used through Vietnam. The blade is made from a special Haynes Alloy N0.25. Only about 1,156 of these knives were ever made making these very rare amongst U.S. issue knives. They show up on Ebay from time to time for about $1500 to $2000.
