Do you worry about the reverse-pull grip?

So I am working on my first designs, and I realized I could do a pinch grip, a standard grip, and a reverse grip... but the grip is just not comfortable for the reverse-pull grip (ie- blade upside down with the blade facing you). Traditionally, I like an arched or curved grip so I never thought about that. However, I was talking with someone who was really into reverse pull.... which I swear I would slice myself with if I used a knife that way. Should I rethink?

Just learning. But it was interesting feedback.

And no, I am not ready to share by first designs here yet... still learning. :D

What is the intended use for Reverse (blade down) edge facing you?

For self defense, Me personally...... I like edge Out if I was holding reverse grip. And my designs reflect that.

Stacey is spot on, as usual. There are MANY knives for many things...just make some you like and feel good about before branching out. I'm happy with one good grip :)

The grip should suit the intended purpose of the knife. It’s not really much more complicated than that. Applications outside of the intended scope of use will always be a compromise. Consider focusing on just making a good knife that fits your design & parameters and don’t worry about goofy uses or unlikely applications.

you'd be pulling the edge toward yourself?

I think I will keep it straightforward. I like a solid and non-slipping grip... and I think I will stick to it.

NOPE..... (the way I do it, Blade down, edge Out) The opposite of the way the poster asked about. Spine would be "pulled" towards me.

A fighting knife grip needs to be secure, not comfortable. You won't use it long enough to get blisters like with a chef's knife.

Make what YOU like and then when you're satisfied with that branch out. I'm still working on learning how to perfect what I like for my intended uses. That way I'll actually use the knives and discover what works the best. I bet there are a lot of other people who like the kinds of knives you do. You can always market them later if you decide to become more than just a hobby maker like me.
