Do your Expensive EDC’s stay at home? Or do you carry less expensive EDC’s?

Hi all. Bike Doc here.
I was wondering who leaves their expensive knives home and carry alternatives? I am impressed with some $60 well made knives I’m not afraid to use.

I only buy knives that were intended to be used by the manufacturer and I personally intend to use. i.e. Hinderers, CRKs, and especially Microtechs are all fair game. I'm generally not interested in "art" knives, for me a well built functional knife is the art itself, and using it is enjoying it. Life is too short for safe queens.

Some high end OTF’s will stop working from pocket lint. This statement was made by a tech while working on a repair. Kinda goes against the whole EDC thing if lint can fowl a mechanical system. A $500 knife/tool should be tough and maintainable. Glad to see the changes happening.

Use them all, this depends on what you consider expensive… my most expensive was 400,
Not the one one pictured .

Just depends on the knife. I have some expensive ($200+) that I carry, and some that I don’t.

I have plenty of knives I don't carry because I just like owning them, and honestly, I have hundreds more knives than I'll ever need for the rest of my life so it's no big deal. I am not a minimalist. Also, as a member of the Laptop Class, my cutting needs on a daily basis tend to be few. Hell, many of my knives were bought simply because I liked them and wanted to own them, not because I necessarily needed a new cutting tool.

That said, if I have a dirty cutting job, no, no I'm not using an expensive knife when a cheaper Cold Steel or Opinel will break down those boxes, and my nice stuff doesn't get scratched up.
