Gentlemen;
It is with great pleasure that I confirm a new major player in the balisong arena, Mr. Mauricio Dobruski.
On the afternoon of March 6, 2001 The funds for this piece were Paypaled to Brazil. The next morning (!) I was given a FedEx tracking number for the balisong enroute to the USA. I didn't even bother to check tracking, just thought "Next week, hopefully..."
This morning (March 9) that pesky
FedEx man is knockin on the door...IT'S HEREEEEEEE!!!!!!
The constuction is integral; very similar to the old PC micarta scaled balis, relatively thick handles, it also handles much like the inset PCs. The construction, in a word, is perfect. The hinge pins (hex bolts) are countersunk to the proper depth; the fit and finish is beyond reproach. There is a new style latch 'guard', and *very* well done. I just can't find a mill mark anywhere on the knife!!
I hate to be redundant, but the grinds on the mirror polished blade are, well, perfect.
Some balis have a very 'floppy' feel to them; this knife has the feel of a Mercedes, ie: very smooth and refined.
I would like to stress one point; when the handle is held 90 degrees to the blade there is **NO** play in the handle...when the knife is held by the tip of the blade and shaken the handles wiggle **zero** !! I have several balisongs and this is the only knife to date that does this. I do not think this is a particular function of being new; the knife is of this quality!
I am very impressed; this is not an easy feat.
My one recommendation to M. Dobruski would be to round the handles a touch...just a bit square-feeling in the hand. Hopefully my next one will be a touch more rounded!
My thanks to both M. Dobruski and M. Machado.
