He said it was basal cell carcinoma, had to give me four stitches to seal it back up, he said he wasn't too concerned, apparently this type doesn't typically spread but it coulda got bigger if he didn't remove it and that coulda been bad.

I was always careful about the sun, usually stayed covered or under cover but apparently all the motorcycle ridin' in t-shirts and cutoffs is not the best thing for my skin.

Anyone else had to deal with the same thing, I'm a little nervous, I'm sure no news is good news, just wondering what the time frame is for them to test the cells/biopsy till they can let me know.

BTW, this thing hurts like an SOB, feels like he cut into the muscle, anyway I'm sure I'm bein' a big baby, just wanted to tell someone as I really don't know what to expect and I haven't told anyone at home, didn't wanna worry anyone since I really didn't know anything yet.

Thanks for listenin'.

You'll be fine. If it keeps hurting to the point where booze won't take the pain away, you have plenty of sharp things hanging around with which to cut out the weak tissue. :D

Yup - my family seems prone to it. I've had similar hunks removed from my torso and leg. Always hurts more than you think it ought to.

Glad it's gone, and glad the doc doesn't seem worried about it anymore. Good reminder to get ourselves checked periodically.

The Doc took one from my face a few years ago. He told me if you had to have cancer, basal cell was the easiest to treat. No problems since then. I just ended up with a "dueling scar" about 1.5 inches long on my right cheek. lol

That's what I keep hearing, I can live with a divot in my arm. :)

Hope its all good. But the important question was did you ask him what kind of steel his scalpel was?

I had one removed from behind my left ear a few years ago. The doctor had to remove an area about the size of my ear to get it all. I could barely turn my head to the right for a couple of months because of how far he stretched the skin to close it up. No subsequent problems or further spots yet. The doctor wanted me to take a week off after the surgery, I only took the rest of the day. I was back at work the next day with no pain meds. I've had sunburns that hurt a lot worse.

You haven't told anybody yet -- good! We'll help you think up a good story for them. I suggest you were attacked by a pack of weasels. While you were swimming!

I saw my first weasel 2 days ago little sucker ran across the road toward the creek, beady eyed little sucker, I think he was headed headed for the neighbors chicken coop. ;)

I've had about 15 cut out but they were never painful. All but three were basal cell.

My record for the number frozen in one doctor visit is 42. These come with fair skin.

Had the first one cut off about 30y ago.

It takes about 7-10d for the pathology results, usually, and this is to ensure they "got it all."

At this point I see my dermatologist about every 2-3mo.

My dad recently had one cut from is cheek just below his eye. They really had to dig to get it all out but they expect no further problems.
Take care of it, keep your skin under cover. You surely ain't no supermodel.

I had a big chunk taken out of my sholder about 12 years ago. Growing up in Arizona in we went shirt less in the Summer.I would blister my back every year. We have lived in Alaska for 33 years.
My dermatologist said he removed two or three cancers like mine a year and if he practiced in Arizona he would remove that many in a week. I have not seen him in years and I know when I see him he will yell at me for not coming in for a check up.

basal cell carcinoma,

Anyone else had to deal with the same thing,

Hi Ted,
I had one of those cut out of my temple a couple of years ago. Now I really do got holes in my head. They had to do it twice to get it all. I didn't find the procedure painful, but I did find it annoying. I wear wide brimmed hats these days on the doctor's advice. (This is not entirely a bad thing. Now I have an excuse to wear a Stetson at work. Can't nobody bother me about it. It's doctor's orders.)

The doc said that basal cell carcinomas are not aggressive carcinomas and that as long as they get all of it, the rate of recurrence is low. But I still wear hats.
