The Sci-Fi channel is running the episodes of the revived Doctor Who that aired on the BBC last season.

We were big fans of the original series, which we got via PBS back in the 80s or so, starting with the Tom Baker episodes. PBS had a big hit with Monty Python, and they were looking for other Brit offerings.

This new one:

Seems to retain the flavor of the old one pretty well, with the better-quality (but still charmingly cheesy) special effects modern tech allows.

I managed to get the new series on dvd. Not bad.

****spoiler below******

This guy only plays the doctor for this season. It ends with a new regeneration. I was really starting to like him. I hope they play the second season (The brits are one season head it seems) as soon as this one ends.

I liked it, I only liked Tom Baker in the old days, didn't really take to any of the other actors that played The Doctor, but the special effects were good on this new one.

I really enjoyed Eccleston as the Time Lord too. He had that demented look in his eyes that worked well. I hope the newer guy is just as good.

I just watched the first two episodes of the 'new' season this past weekend and I am very pleased with it. Feels like vintage Doctor Who, but generally looks crisper/c;eaner production without looking modern.

Tom Baker was my favorite too, especially the early ones. The first and 3rd Dr.s were my next favorite, then the second. Didn't care for any of the others, though this guy looks promising.

It wasnt bad, I caught the show second time around on "UK Gold" on Sky. Christopher Ecclestones a relly nice guy, I met him when my bro-in-law was doing the catering for "Revengers Tragedy". Nice to see a fellow Mancunian doing well. (And Billie Piper is a "darlin'!"

IMHO the Brits were never really good at Science Fiction (the Russians were even worse) and the accompanying special effects but I used to watch the old Dr. Who mainly for the laughs and the cheezy scenery.
The new Dr. Who series looks interesting - guess I'll take a look.

tom baker is the Real Doctor- This brings me back to my youth..whew, memories.

I haven't heard the word 'Tardis' an about 20 years.

Yeah… Tom Baker was my favorite Doctor. I didn’t really watch the series at all when someone else was in that role.

I’ll definitely check out the new version of Doctor Who though. It sounds like fun. :)

I used to love that show! The $49.95 a week budget on the special effects were cheesy, but gave the show its campy charm. Like most I thought Tom Baker the only time lord.

I did not know the show was back, I'll have to catch it. But I'll miss Leela!

It was only a few years ago I saw a weathered bumper sticker on an old Toyota said "I travel with a Tardis"

I just watched the first two episodes this weekend. It sure does bring back memories. They even kept the old them music, although it is a little more up to date.

Leela! She was something else... One of my first boyhood crushes. This new girl is pretty cute, and as always, a British accent is sexy.

I'm sure Sci-Fi channel will continue to carry the program, as long as the Brits keep putting it out.

No matter how cheesy, Dr. Who will always have a special place in my heart.

Daniel
