I wonder about what life was like when this was made, bought and carried by a Doctor or Pharmacist. Late 19th cent. or early 20th cent. It's a Russell Green River with the only blade being a pill counter/powder knife. Russell Green River Works was based near Greenfield Mass on the Deerfield River. I once tried to find any evidence of the factory but had no luck. The knife maker had a profound effect on the expansion of the American West. Here is a interesting history for those who like tracing history through antiques - especially knives and guns..http://www.mman.us/jrussellco.htmIMG_5431.jpegIMG_5430.jpeg

These were also sold to artists and teachers as Pallet knives!!Palette knife 1.jpg

Finally, a spatula knife thread! Nice! Wish that one day we'll see a Doctor's Knife with spatula secondary from GEC. On a 15 frame maybe? Just don't make cuts on a comb on those Urban Jacks and call it done (not really, but still). 😀

I'm with Charlie, I believe that's a pallet knife.
I have a couple more around here! I don't collect them really, but I can't turn one down either!!Spatulas 1.jpgAbove is a Russell, with the Ulster shown before!Palette knife 2.jpg
Here is a nicely made Palette Knife, with pre-ban handles, and no markings!! Must have belonged to a famous artist who wanted to remain anonymous!!! Ha Ha!!
