A few years ago I discovered that I had very few photos of knives I had made in the past. The 30+ years of knifemaking has had a great effect on my family, so I thought it would be great to have a record of the work produced during tat period. I contacted Francesco Pachi to talk about the possibility of producing a book featuring his excellent photography. We decided on a large format, coffee table book printed on high quality photographic paper. After 3 years of photographing collections around the globe, and text contributions from collectors, friends and family the work is finally done. It turned out to be a heavy volume, bound in leather with chrystal clear photographs. Since it turned out to be a very personal look into my life, it is not intended to be a published work. The very few copies to be printed will be for friends and family only. The book will however be available for perusing at the Canadian Knifemakers Guild show in Toronto in August.
I am absolutely thrilled with the quality of work Francesco produced, and I finally have a record covering a cross section of my work.
Below are a couple of samples of the two page spreads, but they do not convey the actual quality.

That is tremendous, Wolfe!!

Congratulations on reaching such a significant milestone, and doing it with such talent and flair.

I salute you and have been exceedingly pleased to have known you and been able to handle some of the exceptional work that you produce.

Best Regards,

Wolfe Loerchner's work is a delight and an inspiration every time it is seen.

Congratulations on thirty years of superlative artistry.

What a great fine way to commemorate such a significant milestone in a most impressive career.
You have brought so many such joy over the years. Congratulations.

I was fourteen years old when I saw a picture of one of Wolfgang Loerchner's knives. I had taken courses from Bill Schiller and Brian Lyttle on knifemaking, but that picture...

Well, it decided me. Set me down the path to become a goldsmith and metal fabricator.

I will definately buy, and enjoy this book.

The incredible artistic talent you display with your artform certainly deserves the documentation a private publication offers. Surely those who receive it will cherish it forever. Hope you share a few more pages with us, here and there!

Best regards,

Bob

I've long admired your work. I'm sure the images captured in the book will provide inspiration to all who look at it. Congratulations on thirty years of exceptional work.

Congratulations, Wolfgang and Francesco!
What an amazing project this must have been!!

And to have only Wolfgang Loerchner's knives in one book
will be like visiting the kings jewels!! Awesome!!!

All the best,

Wolfgang, congratulations on 30 years of the most excellent knifemaking. The book looks like a labor of love and although I understand I think it's a pity the book will not be available for the general public.

Thank you all for your kind words. It has been an exciting 30 years. Hopefully I have a few more in me, though I am planning in drastically reducing the amount of time I spend in my shop. I had hoped to do some fun things when I retired, now almost 10 years ago, but I have not taken the time to do any of them.

Marcel, the book in it's current form contains a considerable amount of text and photos which deeply affected my knifemaking career, but would likely not be of great interest to most collectors. As well, the format I chose for this edition makes the printing cost extremely high.Very few people would be willing to pay the price. For that reason we went with only 30 copies, signed, dedicated and numbered. Most of these have been spoken for.
I suppose there is the possibility of printing a second edition in a more affordable format, and with edited text in the future. At present there are no plans for that however.

that's cool, man. You're a huge inspiration to a lot of people, Wolfgang. You certainly are that to me, moreso than any other maker- for a wide variety of reasons.

Those knives are beautiful! As an early knife maker myself, I am truly awed by the craftsmanship of those. You really serve as an inspiration for me, and one day I hope to make such gorgeous pieces of art like those.

The book has arrived!!!
It is seven pounds of knife photos bound in embossed leather!!!!!
Flipping through the book, it is extremely interesting to see the evolution in design. Fracesco did an outstanding job of arranging the over 200 knives to reflect the timeline.
I am thrilled with the final product. I have reserved two of the 30 copies to be sold at the Toronto knife show in August.
