My friend brought over a visitor from his church last night. The guy was from Rapa Nui (aka Easter Island). I am from Hawaii and we were talking island life when my wife came up and asked me to open a box. I whipped out my Dodo and the guy's eyes went wide with awe and reverence. He asked to handle my knife, which he could not believe! We started to talk about knives, and he told me that on his last trip to America, he had bought two knives at a flea market for $10. He gave one to his father (which broke after 2 days) and the other he uses everyday and has to sharpen every other day. It became apparent after we continued to talk, that in the area of material possesions. I was much more fortunate than my new friend. As he went to leave I gave him my Dodo as well as a SS Dragonfly for his dad. I have never felt so good giving a gift in my entire life. Tavu (the guy's name) was so appreciative he was almost in tears. I now have a standing invite to visit and stay with him and his family (whenever I happen to be on Easter Island). I now need to save up for a new Dodo, but karma is on my side (on the way to work this morning I found $20 outside my coffee place). Just thought I would share. I wonder how many Spydercos are on Easter Island (at least now there are two!!!!) Later, Josh

I know what you mean about having a good feeling for giving someone a good knife who might not have one otherwise, especially someone who will appreciate it. Four years ago, I was in South Africa at a game park and I gave one of the guides my plain edge Military. He was so happy, I can hardly describe it. I really felt the knife had gone to it's rightful owner because he did more in the world of nature in a day (two hours for that matter) than I would normally do in a year, and he could really use that knife. Be happy about giving that gift, it won't take you long to save for another! :)

The gift of a knife is something that is appreciated worldwide regardless of class or culture. Thumbs up guys!

Thats great! Your friend will never forget it.
I have a little story of my own. I live in a small town (1,200 people) and have 2 sons ages 5 and 10. My younger son is just now learning to ride a bike and so there has been alot of bike activity around the house lately.
One day we were out practicing and the neighbor boy(7 yrs old) rode up on his bike with a friend on another bike. The 7 yr old has a nice bike but his friend( who is 6) was riding a wore out old bike without a seat or seat post  . I talked to them and found out the 6 year old was another neighbor from a couple of blocks away.
Come to find out the 6 year old did'nt have a bike and was using the neighbors old bike. He rode around on my younger sons bike and had the biggest grin on his face while he was doing it (it has a seat on it :) ). After they left I told my wife about it and she said, "They have bikes at Wal-mart for $35" So we decided to just buy the kid a bike.
The next day when I got home from work my 5 year old and I walked down to the kids house looking for him. When we found him I asked his mother if he could come down to our house and ride bikes again. She said "He does'nt have a bike". I told her it was ok and that we had one he could use.
When we got home we had the bike hid behind the car and my younger son said "close your eyes" and we rolled the bike out. We all told him to open his eyes and he stood looking at the bike with a puzzled look on his face. I asked him if he liked the bike at which point he nodded his head that he did and I said well thats your bike now! He was really excited and rides it all the time.
Best $35 I've spent in a long time.

Oh how I like these stories. Yes, there is almost nothing like the gift of a knife. When I was young, and poor i was on the receiving end.
Your reward will be multplied.

Nicely done Newknifeguy. It seems that a Spyderco is a highly apprecited gift that's appreciated even more as time goes on.

Now you did it Josh!! Next thing ya know, Spyderco will get an order for 5000 Dodo's, and 5000 Dragonfly's to be shipped to Easter Island. :)
That was very kind of you!! You might have "infected" them with the Spydie virus.
