A few years ago I made a post about how I had used a SPyderco Harpy to do some home work. It was wonderful. But this round I used the Dodo.

It's performed very well doing the following:

- Scoring and triming Drywall.
- Slicing pail lids of joint compund.
- Cutting drywall patch & joint tape
- Cutting duct tape
- Deburring wood joints.
- Prying up tape that has been left too long on a surface.
- Wall Paper scoring ( forgot the special tool they sold me )
- Slicing Rosin paper used for protecting floors
- Snapping through plastic ties.
- Scrapping off misplaced dried joint compound
- Prying off (carefully) stuck outlet covers.

It's suffered some tip dulling as expected, and the lock is sensitive to contamination from dryall and joint compound.

But otherwise it did good, probably succesfully substituting for several other tools.

Thanks for the post, Dave. It's nice to know that the Dodo held up to some hard use.

Could you please explain a little more about the lock's sensitivity to contamination? Did you really have to glop it up to affect lock reliability or did just a little dust throw it off? Did you just rinse it to get it working again?

Sure, when sanding joint compound, it's almost like sifting flour all over everything. Between the deposits on the blade tang and in the track area it prevented the ball from going very far forward. Blowing it out didn't help but a rinse and blast fixed it.

As a side note, the stainless steel harpy I also used while stripping several layers of paint from a door. So it was glopped up with hardened paint. it cleaned up pretty well and didn't affect lockup. I wonder if the lock back is more reliable in dirt/dust.

I'm having fun with my millie downstairs right now...

*cutting drywall
*cutting wire(elec)
*trimming wood
*cutting drywall tape

Doing 2 rooms at once, have to mud the 2nd room tomorrow

Other than a few screws I hit with the tip it's doing it nicely. No worries about the lock, just leave it in the room, blow on the lock tang before putting it in my pocket.
