Hi,

I have being trying/testing many knives this last weeks and the Dodo was not really my favorite UNTIL... I use it !
This Dodo blade is eating wood like crazy !
Very aggressive cutter thanks to his little belly !
Very very very very !!!
Eric is as knacked as his father !

cheers

JM

Yes, the belly,a great cutter. I do a lot of triming of small branches in trees and schrubs, the Dodo does eat them up.

I originally bought one because it's the only good production high performance small bladed knife. I had this attitude of "Well I can't carry a real Sypderco with me so this will have to do".

I love the damn thing. It is an absolutely genius design. As soon as man-knife marriages are legal I... oops TMI :D

I keep hearing good things about this knife but the strange blade design just does not appeal to me at all. I think its the lack of any real length of straight edge so I can use it for whittling, woodwork or similar. It just looks overly aggressive to me.

Perhaps I need to try one myself... :p

I feel another potential purchase... ;)

Hi Wayne,

you will love it !!

As the moment you will start to use it you will be hooked !

cheers

JM

Deep and easy cut into dry wood.

Actually you kind of nailed it... the reverse S curve on the S30V blade is what gives the thing so much raw cutting power.

I'd think with the tip on the knife being oriented perpendicular to the axis of the S curve though it could handle a wide variety of tasks.

That being said Spyderco's philosophy is a knife for every task and the Dodo is no exception. It's a high performance knife that could even perform a tactical role that fits in a highly sensitive environment.

I recently bought a Dodo myself. It's a great little cutter! The knife was tested in German knife magazine 'Messer Magazin'. Their conclusion was: 'The Spyderco Dodo is not a knife for everybody, but it sure has its qualities. In many aspects it comes second to none. It somehow is different , that's for sure'. They also mentioned the Dodo being an excellent rescue knife, especially with the spyder edge.

Nice job, Burnett!! That's the coolest picture of a Dodo that I've ever seen! Simply awesome!

Thanks timlara. I always like it when people post pics of their knifes and I'm happy to contribute with some of my own pics of course. :)

Beautiful picture indeed !

The dodo is easy to use like a small light hatchet.
I used it that way to trim some branchs. It's very easy to trim with it.

Also when you need to cut fast and deep... at that moment you realize how the dodo is a high performer.

As a self defense tool the Dodo is highly respectable. Its pommel is perfect and the blade which look like a Lion Claw got tremendous power.
The accuracy of each hit is great whatever grip you use (hammer, filipino or reverse)

The Ball lock after some training (and using the nail insteal of the meat of your thumb) makes the knife easy and fast to open and close like the Axis lock knives.

After three weeks of hard use and testing my Dodo do not show any sign of wear or any play in the blade. The blade I've been used very hard on difficult job (cutting burned plastic against steel plate) with absolutly no problem and excellent results. The S30V get a wicked edge in two stroke of ceramic.

Really impressive !

Cheers

Just don't get caught cheating on it! You might find out Dodo's last name is Bobbit!

Nemo, careful where you cut your wood! Based on your pictures it looks like you could drop your knife off your balcony and end some poor Frenchman's afternoon stroll, or lose a toe since you're cutting in your socks! :D

I've liked this knife from day 1. I must get one!!!

So, out of all you proud Dodo owners, would you prefer spyder or plain edge?

Good question. I wonder who had the chance to test both.

The Dodo Power in my own opinion is in wood cutting and whittling and for that kind of task plain edge is better.

Looks like Spyderco would use pics like that in the ads. That type of pic shows the knife as it really looks. There have been several models I did not like until I saw real pics.

Plain. Although to be honest I can see where this is one of the few times I can honestly see why someone would want a SE instead since that is in tune with getting maximum cutting power from such a small knife.

Definitly PE for me. I am not an SE fan, except on a dedicated rescue knife. I love the way a PE edge slices so smoothly. I also prefer to touch up my knives every couple of days, as opposed to sharpening less often. PE is easier to do quick touch-ups on.
