Another "Spyderco is a great company"/I like Sal thread! As most of you remember I had a Dodo with a really bum lock. Sent it in for repair and wasn't real happy how it came back (didn't get returned in the box, the letter was vague about what the problems were and how they were fixed, and the knife was open in the soft envelope it was shipped in). Then I was using it and it failed, this time on my finger. Finger healed well, but I cut the living cr@p out myself, which isn't fun. Took off most of the end of my finger, but avoided nerves and tendons and ligaments. I emailed Sal and he said to send it to him personally.

I did and within a couple weeks I had a new knife sitting here. The story gets better, and I couldn't make this up if I tried, but this one is tough to close! I thought maybe the spring had hung up in the channel where the piston on the lock travels, but that didn't make since because it closes perfectly when held in the left hand, but when I hold it right-handed, the piston won't retract enough to release the lock. Upon closer inspection the ball is REALLY tight in the channel, so I think it's just going to take some break in. Also, comparing it side to side the channel the ball travels in has a little burr of metal on in, which isn't there on the left, which explains why it closes fine on one side and hangs up on the other. I hit that little burr with a file and that fixed it, although the lock is still pretty tight. Feels TOTALLY different (which is a good thing) than the one I had all the problems with, and the ball engages much further than the other one did.

In short, the problem got fixed and obviously some universal force just doesn't want the Bal Bearing Lock to work perfectly for me, for whatever reason, but a big thanks to Sal for personally looking into the problem and I'm glad I finally have a Dodo with a solid lock! I have a lot more boxes to cut up from moving and I can't wait to attack the job with the Dodo in hand!

The best news is that I have a Paramilitary coming my way next week, so I'm a happy Sypderco camper! :D
