Congratulations to Eric and Sal! I just saw the new Knives Illustrated at the local newsstand and the Dodo won the Knives Illustated Best Overall Knife of the Year for 2003! Great job guys!!

PS: I love my Dodo too!!

Agreed, DoDo is one of my favourites to carry nowadays. Even replaced the SS Cricket lately at work... :)

I am actually in the process of making a leather tip-down carry belt holster for it right now, with a Dodo bird embossed on it. Looks pretty cool too... :)

Glad to hear it, the Dodo is probably the most significant knife since the BM 710 in terms of construction methods and features.

I can't wait for Spyderco to apply the same basic design to a more standard blade and handle shape.

Too bad I probably will also blow all my cash on other Spydercos before I get myself to pickup the dodo.
The design grew on me, and hopefully I can get one soon.

My PE Dodo finally arrived yesterday. Fits my hand like it was made just for me. :D Great job Eric!

Congrats to Spyderco and to Eric for designing and producing such a great big little knife. The award is icing on the cake and well deserved.

My Dodo replaced my S30V Native as EDC - no mean feat for sure.

Okay, I'll jump on the bandwagon... :)

My wife gave me a PE Dodo as a birthday gift last month. As others have said, it's gone on to become my new EDC (in my case, replacing an excellent Massad Ayoob).

I'd heard that the Dodo had accomplished the impossible--providing a near-universal grip configuration for everyone from smallish to large hands. That certainly applies for me--the Dodo is the most comfortable to wield knife I've experienced since the Calypso Jr. It's also wonderful in the reverse grip--no incidental feat for a knife with such pronounced finger grooves.

Thanks to Spyderco, I never run out of gift suggestions to my wife... ;)

I handled a Dodo prototype at a knife show long ago, and knew it would be a winner if people would disregard the unusual appearance and just buy them. Nothing will replace my Guntings for EDC, but I do like to travel, and some places restrict the carry of blades longer than 2.5 inches. The Dodo is perfect for that environment, plus are great utility knives to save the edges of my Guntings for emergencies. (For those who roll their eyes at emergency use of knives, most emergencies have nothing to do with fighting or defense. Think of child's clothing caught in an escalator, shoulder bag strap caught in subway door, etc.) The relatively large handle of the Dodo allows for it to be a good knife for emergencies, too, when a very secure grip is important.

I gave my wife a PE Dodo as a Christmas gift (the fifth Spyderco folder I've given her in the last few years) and she loved it. Great little knife, for sure - wouldn't mind having one myself. :)

Something I made for a friend of mine to add a "cuteness" factor to the knife:

Vess,

Out-freakin'-standing!!!

I humbly submit that that is the nicest sheath/holster I've ever seen...

Thanx for the comments. Appreciate. Eric worked very hard on the design & manufacture.

Hi Vess. Very nice. I would like to purchase a couple if they are available. Please email me.

I love that sheath and the knife handle looks great but the blade looks impossible to sharpen without a sharpmaker or some other rod type sharpening device

Personally I only use traditional stones and hone with a strop

Sal, I e-mailed you just now. Basically just let me know where to mail it, and this one will be on it's way to you ASAP... :)

Yeap, standard leather loop, which is an integral part of the back half of the sheath. Strong, simple, reliable. I played around with metal clips and Tek-Loks before, but they just don't work too good with leather, or look as nice for that matter... :)
