I understand that recently Dodo won first prize. What were the attributes that are linked to that blade and earned it the grand prize?

What did it win first prize for?

Since I don't know, I can't say why it won, but if I were going to give it an award, I would take into account:

  • innovative ball lock
  • MBC rated lock on a little knife
  • rock solid grip on a small knife for security and comfort
  • S30V and reverse S profile to give superb performance from a 2" blade
  • ehh... so ugly its cute. :D

But most important, I think, is the synergy of all these features (and more) - making one great knife.

I guess what Golok meant was Eric Glesser's DoDo as Knives Illustrated's "Best Overall Knife for 2003"... Very cool indeed! There is an article in KIs April issue on "Father and Son's Sacred Trust".. It featured some of the most prominent Father and Son team in knife manufacturing including Sal and Eric.. Hey, you know what? The "Scorpius" is also an awesome piece! Love the design.. Sometime when I grow up.. I'll ascend to the DoDo! Good job Eric! :D

I think the Dodo is one of the best Spyderco models ever. Eric Glesser did an outstanding job with it's design and in a sea of tired looking black handles, the blue G-10 is a refreshing touch.

I think the blue handles are an important design feature in making the knife look friendly and non-threatening.

That disappears when the blade comes out. It's a polarizing reaction of either "Aww... That's so cute!" or "Ohmigod! What's that?!"

Just read about the MBC rating at the other Spyderco forum.
