Does 1095 stripped/forced patina prevent rust?

Is taking a 1095 blade, stripping off the coating and then forcing a patina, make it almost as worry free as a stainless knife when it comes to rust?

Stainless IS...pretty much. Not that it won't rust, but it won't rust easily, or quickly, or probably not without "help." Leave the knife in a mud-puddle for several days and you'll find some spots on it. Nothing else will do that well...IMO.

NO ! The most rust resistant blade I believe H-1. Other SS can rust , so you still have to take care of them. Patina is nothing more than an oxide coating , easy to rust though it will hold oil and therefore resist rust somewhat.

A patina will slow down rust but not prevent it
All carbon steel knives need to be clean and dry when you put them away, then they will not rust
A light coating of oil will prevent rust

Some of the coatings are like a powder coat and creat resistance when slicing. Removal of the coating gives you a blade that slides through material better.

What if you were to patina the blade then paint/coat over it?

I expect you'd have a hard time getting a good seal/bond with the coating - since the patina traps oil and other things in it (and is basically a well controlled corrosion/oxidation layer).
