:) Seems like this shouldn't be an impossibly difficult problem , but I'm no expert .

It'd be nice to be able to use the same knife with thin material clothing and thicker winter or work clothing . Without bending the clip .

Maybe something with a simple torx screw to adjust the tension ?

G & G Hawk make what.is probably the closest thing to what you are asking! A lot.of them show up on Chris Reeve knives too! I'm technologically challenged, hopefully someone can.post a pic!!

Yes sir!! Thanx!!

The Hawks have definitely made the most ingenious innovations in this area. Here are four more of theirs.

Here's a disappearing clip from Boker that basically does what you're asking about.

There was also a spine-mounted disappearing clip patented by a custom maker that operated similarly to the Boker. I can't remember his name or that of the knife at the moment, however.

There's the SOG Autoclip. BladeHQ's description states that it's intended purpose is exactly what you asked about.
It's spring loaded with a little plastic thumb wheel at the back to adjust the tension.

Granted, otherwise it's a mediocre knife at best.

i figure autoclip was the first of its kind
addressing the matter of clip retention.
(the first ones were us made and current
versions with the thumb studs are off shore).
its a deceiving name - "autoclip".
as the clip has to be adjusted manually
by rotating an upright wheel disk...duh?!
this sorta added some bulk .
guess the clip works but definately
not low carry.
