Does all Spyderco G10 feel 'dry'?

For lack of a better term.

I just got my first real Spyderco in the mail yesterday (Para2 brown s35vn). At first I wasn't digging it until I carried it today and I was very impressed with how such a largeish sized knife could disappear in my pocket.

I don't think it will stop making me buy Kershaw/ZT mainly but I would definitely like to add some more spydercos in the future.

The only issue I still have not gotten used to is the G10. I don't know how to better explain it other than it feels dry. It has a matte finish like it should be sealed with something. Every other time I have dealt with g10 is has a much smoother/slicker, but not slippery feeling that the Spydie's.

I'm sure it will grow on me but it is a little off putting for now.

It will get slicker over time just with normal carry. I felt the same way when I got my first paramilitary 2. I just got my brown paramilitary 2 last week, and it is still very course. I estimate that in about a week or two it will feel like my older paramilitary 2.

Not following the "dry" thing. You might be feeling a medium texture, rather than the 3D machined G10 on other models. You could give it a quick blast with WD-40 and see if it makes a difference. One thing to note, Sal hs mentioned many times in the past that the G10 Spyderco uses on their knives has a higher fiberglass content than what you might purchase from knifemaking stores online. Not sure if this is the case with other manufacturers.

I'm right there with you on it feeling dry. My M390 PM2 felt powdery for a bit after I got it, as did my M4 Manix. That having been said, with a little use, it seems to go away and they start to feel much better. I think they just have a smaller and more aggressive peel ply than I'm used to feeling from other knives with G-10 such as the Persistance and it's siblings.

Powdery is another good way of putting it. It just feels a little raw in comparison to Kershaw G10.

I wouldn't say it's raw so much as the peelply texture is smaller and more aggressive, and because of that feels almost powdery in hand. There's a noticeable difference between the G-10 used on the Golden sprints coming out lately and what you'd feel on knives in the Tenacious line (which almost feels like Micarta to me). That having been said, it has grown on me and is grippy as hell.

It's Just More Coarse....
It Was Made To Have An Excellent Grip.. And The More Coarse.. The More "Grippy".

Right, it's more coarse, but also finer textured. Makes it feel powdery almost.

If the texture bothers you, you can always take a little a little wet/dry sandpaper and smooth it out. I'd start with 1000 grit and work up till you get the finish you want.

I would advise wearing gloves and sanding either under water or using a respirator. The fiberglass fragments that you'll generate are hard on the skin, eyes, and lungs...

I'm not talking about just the textured portion. Even the untextured areas feel that way. It's like the difference between touching interior paint on your walls versus touching a car hood.

I guess like someone said, they use a lot more glass and less resin. It just feels raw, like it should be sealed. I'm figuring over time as it picks up oils in my hand and stuff, it will change. I don't think I'll go spraying it with wd40 or CLP or anything.

wash it and scrub with toothbrush(first is optional) spray down with wd40 let it soak for a couple min then wash it again with dishsoap and a toothbrush
