I don't know of any Leatherman type tools but here's something I've been working on....The PryBaby pocket prybar tool...

Hey, that's a pretty nifty little prybar. Helps you keep your knives sharp in two ways: the diamond, and in preventing you from prying with your blades! :)

You could make it a bottle opener too, if you made that hook thing a little more curved. Are you going to sell those?

Edited to add:
SOG multitools have easily removable blades, I've heard. Better do a search first though. I'm not sure about the smaller ones (Crosscut, Crossgrip).

You might try this instead. Take the multitool and grind the edge and point off the knifeblade to make a prytool/scraper out of it. No edge, no knife. Just a thought...

I have always wished you could design your own tools for a multitool. Gerber came closest to this with their "build your own" program but unforunately I still couldn't get the exact combination of tools I wanted.

Alpha, the PryBabies are going to be available soon. I have several versions going including a mini keychain tool. All will be premium steel, S30V. Just looking at various guthook/seatbelt cutter options.

Why S30V? Isn't that overkill for just a prybar, sharpener, and bottle opener? I would think aything more than 440C would be.... uh... nevermind. Answer just came to me. P-R-Y-B-A-R. Duhh.... S30V would be perfect. Nevermind.....

Mate, Try this option. Write to leatherman to see is they
will make you a "bladeless" tool . I know they were working
on one until 9/11 came along. Failing that you might be able
to sent a leatheman back to have the knife blades removed
and reshimmed.

Duh, I'm such a dunce. I forgot I ground the blade
on one of my supertools in to a spike to work string
and rope with. Works fairly well when I run my
trout lines.

I have swapped out the blades on several SOGs, including the CrossCut and CrossGrip. It's easy to do.

hey guys and gals, thanks for all the info - i do have an older leatherman, would send it in/grind off blade but it has a darned good edge too it, REAL sharp, hate to do that.

will check out the SOG stuff and see about removing a blade and replacing it w/a washer

interestingly, there is another thread running simultaneously w/this one, same subject, someone at gerber/spydie/SOG should be listening.

i'll find something for him, i promise, his FIRST KNIFE!! gonna also give him a spydie delica w/a 2" or so blade, and see if he will take care of it, i think he will(or maybe a CRKT pro or5 falcon, small model)

his fav from my collection?? BM AFCK. Like father like son lol

thanks again for info

Peter Atwood touched on one possible solution - Gerber's BYO (Build Your Own) program. Visit their website (www.gerberblades.com) and surf through the BYO program. We had this question regarding a possible gift for a young family member last Christmas, and found that you can put together functional toolsets through BYO that happen to avoid a knife blade. On top of that you get to pick your handle color and choose between stainless and black tools. I would think a 12 year old would find that pretty cool.

I think the reason it's so hard to find a knifeless multi-tool is because the blade is, for the vast majority of people, by far the most used tool. I have a SAK but it stays in my bag while a knife is in my pocket.

Best of luck, Dave
