For some reason, I like to go back and read old threads. Some that I have written, some by others. I used to keep a whole list of my favorite ones in my email - before it was lost...had around 1100 of 'em....:(

Anyway, been doing some thinking, some reviewing, and some reminiscing. We've had some good times on this forum. Some great chuckles....

One of my favorite things to do is go back and read some of UB's longer posts...back when he filled the page up. Great stuff.

I hesitate to post any links because I know it drives Spark crazy when we resurrect old threads....so y'all will have to search for the fun ones yourselves....:D

I used to do avatars for people - when I first got here....didn't know who anybody was back then, but now when I look back, their strange replies seem to suddenly make perfect sense.....:p

2 minutes after I ordered my first khukuri from Bill..... I panicked.....I had no idea what to do with this kukri thing when it got here, nor did I have a plan for explaining it to the missus.....but now, even my 2 yr old knows what a khukuri is....

It must be getting late.... :footinmou

I avoid reading old threads where Ive posted, just because whenever I read what I wrote, I tend to get embarassed. Sometimes its amazing to see how stupid one can be when behind the keyboard. Anyways, figure this will probably be another post Im embarassed of. :footinmou

Dan, I do a search occasionally on old threads. Nice to look back once in a while. I like to review some of the old threads on UBBB etc.

I lost all my pics of the specials and other good khukuri pics when I changed computers. I feel for you on losing your emails. I had many posts categorized for sharpening, cleaning, cutting, wood/horn handle finishing. I lost it all.

I've a little insomnia tonight. Too much on my mind. Pappy, UB, Mom, Plumbers work sheduled for Wed and Thurs. I have been having one leak after another in my water lines. I have that grey poly XXXX water lines. Their was a class action suit years ago to reimburse for the cost of replacing them. Of course, I didn't know about it until it was too late.

Plumber says it will take two days to repipe the house. Cut into Mom's Bathroom shower wall to get to the pipes for the bathtub. Can't get to it any other way. Going to be a mess and Mom is all upset over the changes and confusion as she doesn't understand the problem. All this wasn't supposed to be done for another two weeks, but the Plumber had a cancellation and called me tonight to see if he could start Wed. Of course, I was agreeable to the expedited schedule.

Tomorrow, I mean today, store up water for flushing the kamodes and for washing dishes etc. Pick up some drinking water at the store.
Mom is all upset because she doesn't know how she is going to flush the kamode, wash her face, brush her teeth etc. I try to remind her how she did it when she was a kid, so long ago. She doesn't remember. She'll be 88 in December , day after Xmas. Dementia/Alzheimers is hell!
I'll work thru it and keep explaining how to do it. She is too unsteady/weak to lift a bucket so I'll be the flush man.
AND TIME MARCHES ON. Think I will surf around for a while until hopefully sleep will come.

I look for solid information & pix of old kukris, but nearly all the best pix have gone even a month after there posted. :grumpy:

Spiral :)

Since I've only been into khukuris a few months, I go back an read the old threads to find out information. Usually its about what a word or phrase means but its also nice to read a person's emails to find out about them.

Since, for the most part, we only know each other through OUR emails. I like to try and get some incite into how they think, etc. Maybe I can get a better understanding of them. We all live in different places, have different jobs and our backrounds are unique.

Its nice to have such a diverse & interesting "friendship pool" :)

I sure do, Dan. And thanks for the welcome last week! There's a whole wealth of info on these great knives in there... sometimes you come across a thread via a google search. A lot of people's experience is right there- saving you maybe, from making a mistake (temper, grind, etc.) or confirming your next HI purchase is exactly what you are looking for. It's just helpful reading. Of course there HAS been some nutty OT stuff- still is- but you can filter it out.

I just spent all last night looking through the achives for info on grinders...talk about information overload. I ended up dreaming about them. :)
A great resource.

I can't believe you guys did that to me... I tried to read it all... Poor Jim & the cave... Man, I should get a free khuk for even TRYING to read all that... eyes are burning... I feel dizzy.

I made it to post 650+... was relieved when you finally started talking about knives again around 600... what a trip... the images (thank g_d there was no soundtrack). It was either art, madness, or some kind of group... I don't know what. Reading that made me feel like the time someone put something illegal in my drink.

I notice the forum owner finally shut it down, or it never would have died...

Looks like it died a permanent death as I can't even access it now. The link sends me to a page that says Enter the Forums and that the link or page no longer exists.:( Is it just me or is anyone elde getting the same thing?
I get the same thing. looks like it's been buried.

What a damned shame if it actually is and not just you and I, but I can understand and support the decision if accessing the thread was slowing down or otherwise causing havoc with the forums.

Not Again. I had to read that thread once and that's enough.

I make a habit of finding old threads and reading them, its fun. But it's weird to read the stuff I wrote when I first started posting here, what a difference 5 years makes.

Ok, I can access it from Kismet's link but not from anyone elses. Kis must have the magic touch.
Must have Bill. I got on it from Kis's post too. Thanks Kis. I lost that link when my computer wiped out, glad to get it back!:D

You are quite welcome.

It should be treasured, not only for the sheer size and lunacy, but for the names and personalities who participated in its construction. We leave for one reason or another, and should not be forgotten.

Kis
We have so much.
